Our top Vacation rental home tips:
Money saving strategies:
- Reserve your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules usually become available a year in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families reserve their Summer vacations during Thanksgiving and Christmas gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Summer is high season in the Nags Head area. Booking your Nags Head vacation home in Fall or Spring months is an excellent way to save on your rental home. Rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of acceptable properties. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Nags Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with family and friends at the beach.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner or host whether your vacationing group qualifies for a special promotion or discount.
- Property management companies often offer customers an option to obtain vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for more information.
- Find a copy of your local Nags Head visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, visitors guide magazines contain offers and deals for local tours and attractions.
How to pick the perfect rental in Nags Head:
- Select a group lead, select your dates, and choose a max budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and the bed configuration your family requires. Spectacular Top-Floor Oceanfront Condo! Directly On the Ocean! Book Now! has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is often available on booking pages. If they are not listed, email the host before booking the property. Note that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which often includes pull out couches in living rooms. You will need to work out what configuration is best for your group.
- Some rental properties allow pets, and some do not. Acceptable types of family pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and added costs may apply. Ask the property management company about pet restrictions before booking.
- If there's a certain Nags Head destination you crave, keep an eye out for properties that are either close by, or those that cater especially to your needs.
- Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. .
Know before you go:
- We recommend storing the host's information in your smartphone and wallet.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, television set or kitchen appliance. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief phone call prevents lots of difficulties.
- Keep the property locked while you're away! Don't let crooks spoil your trip.
- Upon check-in, make note of any issues with the rental property and immediately contact the owner. Record all coorespondence.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like loud visitors bothering your quiet neighborhood. Apply the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great local food and attractions you would have not otherwise known about!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Locals can usually help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to grab the best tacos, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Re-check the property to make sure that you've packed all belongings at check-out. Re-check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Go through the property a final time and look for damage. We recommend inspecting the property with the host whenever you can. If the manager isn't available, take photos and video of the rental to record its condition.
- Did your family have a great stay? Most rental managers make it easy for travelers to provide reviews. If your property and/or property management company was fantastic, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was defective and they failed to correct it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
