How to get the best vacation property experience:

When to book & When to go:

  • The earlier your group can reserve a vacation home, the easier your search will be. The best vacation rentals are booked very early. Booking your rental home six - twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to plan and book your rental.
  • June, July, and August are high season in Nags Head. To get the best value, try shifting your group's vacation week to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and October offer excellent weather, fewer crowds, and greatly reduced traffic.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner or host if your family qualifies for a special rate.
  • Property management companies frequently offer renters an option to purchase vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed days as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for more information.
  • Often, management companies and vacation rental houses supply Nags Head area travel guide magazines which will include coupons, either offered independently by local businesses, or through a relationship with the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.

Use filters to search efficiently:

  • Choose a group leader, select your vacation dates, and select a maximum budget.
  • Decide how many bedrooms and the bed configuration your group requires. Serenity Now: Dog-Friendly Home in Golf Course Community w\/ Water Views has 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
  • Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed types is almost always available on booking websites. Otherwise, call the property management company before reserving the home. Note that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which typically includes pull out couches in living rooms.
  • Some rentals allow pets, but others don't. Allowable types of pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and additional fees may apply. Ask the property manager about allowable pet guidelines before booking.
  • If there's a certain Nags Head attraction you are crazy about, keep an eye out for homes that are either nearby, or those that cater especially to your needs.
  • Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with a disability. Remember to confirm all required amenities are available before booking

More considerations:

  • Add the host's contact information to your smartphone. Take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
  • Property managers are available to help! Don't be shy to ask any questions during your stay.
  • Ensure you protect the owner (and your stuff!) by locking and securing the home while you are out, just like you would back home.
  • To make certain damages are not linked to your family's visit, inspect for any problem areas upon check in. Contact the host immediately to document any damages. If there is a dispute, having a record of issues and contact attempts will be valuable.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like unpleasant visitors disrupting your peaceful home. Practice the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great local food and scenic spots you would've not otherwise known about!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Local residents can frequently help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to rent beach equipment, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for shopping?
  • Don't leave anything behind! Just before departing, walk through the property to confirm you've collected all personal belongings. Make sure to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • After your trip, leave feedback! Property owners rely on great feedback to compel future bookings. They'll be grateful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other vacationers will will be grateful for your review find their best rental home. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to remedy it.
