Our top Rental booking tips and tricks:

Finding the best value:

  • Reserve your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules often open 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many groups book their Summer vacations during Christmas and Thanksgiving gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • To book the best vacation home within budget, we strongly suggest booking in the Spring or Fall. You'll enjoy lower rental rates, better selection, gorgeous weather and the absence of giant crowds at your favorite restaurants and activities. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to book a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer months.
  • Some property management companies offer promotional rates for veterans and active duty military. Check with your property manager to see if special discounts are available for your group before you book.
  • Booking websites usually offer customers an option to add trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally will cost you anywhere between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for days missed as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for specifics.
  • Many management companies and vacation rental houses supply Nags Head area visitor guide magazines which include special offers, either offered independently by local companies, or through a relationship between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.

Finding the perfect rental in the Nags Head area:

  • Begin by selecting trip dates and a spending budget.
  • Determine how many bedrooms and the bed configuration your group requires. Whalebone Oceanfront 4 Bedroom Cottage E has 4 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms.
  • Specific information about bedrooms and bed counts is usually accessible on booking websites. If they are not listed, contact the host before you book the vacation property. Note that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds. You will need to determine what is suitable for your vacation.
  • If your group is bringing pets, you'll need to book a pet-friendly rental. Request details on breed, size, and type requirements. Note that some property owners charge additional pet fees.
  • Visiting for a specific event? If so, use a map search to browse nearby properties.
  • Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. Confirm all necessary amenities are included before booking

Some things to know before you go:

  • Take a copy of the owner's contact number and check in/check out procedures for your rental property. Store the manager's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, A/V setup or appliance. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief telephone call can prevent quite a few issues.
  • Lock your vacation home while you are away. Protect your property!
  • Upon check-in, note any damages to the property and immediately alert the property manager. Record all coorespondence.
  • Respect the neighborhood. Often times, adjacent homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking policies can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Local residents can usually point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to launch your kayaks, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
  • Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, take a walk through the rental property to reconfirm you've collected all personal belongings. Re-check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Inspect the rental a final time and look for damage. We recommend inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the host is not available, ensure that you take video of the property to record its condition.
  • Leave feedback! Property owners rely on excellent ratings to propel future bookings. They'll be grateful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went awry, other vacationers will be thankful you shared your feedback find their best vacation home. Please be fair with your feedback If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to remedy it.
