Tips to get the best Nags Head rental experience:

How to get the best value:

  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months along the coast of NC. To find the most suitable rental within your budget, we suggest booking in the Spring or Fall. You'll benefit from lower rates, greater selection, gorgeous weather and the absence of large crowds at the beach and popular attractions. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Nags Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
  • In the Nags Head area, The sooner you can book a vacation rental, the better your selection will be. The best rental homes are reserved very early. Booking your vacation rental six to twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to plan and reserve your rental home.
  • Hosts and Property managers sometimes offer special rates for veterans. Make sure to check with your host or property manager to see if special discounts are available for your group.
  • Property managers usually offer customers an option to add trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which generally will cost you between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for additional information.
  • Find a copy of your local visitors guide upon arrival. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, travel guides contain discounts for nearby accommodations, tours and attractions.

How to pick the best rental in the Nags Head area:

  • Choose vacation dates and maximum budget.
  • Hot Tub
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is usually available online. Otherwise, reach out to the property manager before you book your home. Note that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds in living rooms. You will need to establish what configuration is suitable for your trip.
  • Visiting for a single attraction? If so, use a map search to locate nearby rentals.
  • Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Confirm all necessary amenities are available before reserving a rental.
  • Are you bringing the family pet? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your rental agreement! Additional pet fees or costs may be applied to your invoice.

Tips for your stay:

  • Add the owner's contact information to your smartphone. Take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
  • Document any damages to the property during check in, and immediately contact the owner. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be valuable if damages are assessed.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, television set or appliance. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief call prevents quite a few difficulties.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disagreeable vacationers bothering your home life. Use the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great restaurants and scenic spots you would have never otherwise known about!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Residents can typically help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to launch your kayaks, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fine dining?
  • Ensure you protect the property owner (and your things!) by locking and securing the home when you are gone, just like you would at home.
  • Double-check every room of the rental property to confirm that you've packed all of your family's items on check-out day. Check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Inspect the rental one final time and look for damages to contents or the property itself. We advise inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can. If the property manager is not available, remember to take video and pictures of the rental to record its condition.
  • Leave a review! Property owners rely on good reviews to drive future bookings. They'll be much obliged for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other vacationers will will be grateful for your feedback and help them have the best future vacation. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to remedy it.
