Tricks and tips for getting the perfect vacation rental experience:

Getting the best rental home value:

  • Book your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules usually become available a year in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many groups book their Summer vacations during Thanksgiving and Christmas gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months in Nags Head. To find the most suitable vacation home within your budget, we strongly suggest reserving in the Fall or Spring. You'll benefit from lower rental rates, greater selection, beautiful weather and the absence of large crowds at your favorite restaurants and activities. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to book a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer months.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner if your group qualifies for a special promotion or discount.
  • Property managers frequently offer guests an option to obtain vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for additional information.
  • Look for your local visitors guide upon checking in. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, visitor guide magazines contain coupons for nearby accommodations, restaurants and tours.

Use filters to narrow your search:

  • First and foremost, have your group agree to the best dates and a max budget.
  • Note the number beds and the configuration you need. Seas The Day: Private Hot Tub, Amazing Sunsets, Village Beach Club amenities! has 5 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms.
  • Precise details about bedrooms and bed types is usually accessible on booking pages. If they are not listed, contact the property manager before reserving the vacation property. Remember that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which usually includes pull out couches in living rooms.
  • If your family is traveling with pets, filter your search for a pet-friendly vacation rental. Ask for specifics on breed, size, and type requirements. Note that some hosts charge pet deposits and fees.
  • Visiting for a specific attraction? Use a map search to browse nearby properties.

Advice for a wonderful stay:

  • Put the manager's contact information in your smartphone.
  • Property managers are available to help! Feel free to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Keep the property locked while you're gone! Don't let crooks spoil your holiday.
  • Record any issues with the rental upon arrival, and immediately e-mail them to the host. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are very helpful if damages are attributed to your stay.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like troublesome visitors disrupting your peace. Use the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great local food and scenic spots you would have never otherwise known about!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Local residents can often help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to order the best nachos, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
  • Just prior to departing, take a walk-through to confirm you have not leave anything behind. Re-check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Record a video to document the condition of the property.
  • Remember to leave a review! Hosts rely on good ratings to propel new reservations. They'll be grateful for your review.
