Booking the best vacation property experience:
When to book a Nags Head rental home & When to go:
- Book your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules often open 12 months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families reserve their Summer vacations during Thanksgiving and Christmas gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months in Nags Head. To find the best value, consider shifting your group's vacation to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and even October offer warmer temperatures, fewer crowds, and greatly reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to reserve an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the high season. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Nags Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with family and friends at the beach.
- Hosts and Property managers sometimes offer promotional rates for veterans and active duty military. It's always a good idea to check with your host or property manager to see if special offers are available for your group before you book.
- Property management companies usually offer customers an option to obtain vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for days missed as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for more information.
- Find a copy of your local visitors guide upon checking in. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local stories, visitor guides have offers and deals for nearby shops and restaurants.
Selecting and booking yourrental home:
- Begin by selecting the best vacation week and a maximum budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and the configuration your family needs. Sandpiper's Retreat: Soundfront, hot tub, pool table and Community amenities has 5 bedrooms and 7 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rentals search.
- Specific details about bedrooms and bed counts is generally available on booking websites. If not, reach out to the property manager before reserving the vacation property. Remember that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which frequently includes sofa beds.
- If your family is vacationing with pets, you must reserve a pet-friendly rental. Request details on breed, weight, and type requirements. Note that some property owners require additional pet deposits and fees.
- Is your family looking for unique amenities? Most rental websites include search filters with amenity lists. Filtering by amenity will allow you to quickly find the perfect rental home.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for the less-mobile. Make certain to inquire about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
More considerations for your visit:
- Be sure you get the owner's contact number and check in/check out procedures for your rental home.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, stereo or thermostat. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief telephone call can prevent a lot of problems.
- Protect the rental owner (and your stuff!) by keeping the rental locked up when you are away, just like you would at home.
- At Check-in, document any issues with the rental property and immediately contact the owner. Record all coorespondence.
- Respecting quiet hours and parking restrictions can make a stay more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You'll enhance your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are usually an excellent resource to find the best local attractions.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Residents can frequently help. Who better to ask where to grab the best tacos, have a great night out, or the best spots for fine dining?
- On check-out day, complete a walk-through to confirm you did not forget any personal items. Make sure to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Go through the property a final time and look for any damage. We suggest inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can. If the property manager isn't available, remember to take video and pictures of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- Did you have a wonderful vacation? Most vacation rental websites make it easy for customers to provide comments. If your property and/or host was terrific, they would love to hear about it. If anything was out of order and they failed to fix it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
