How to find the best vacation property experience:

Getting the most from your budget:

  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months in Nags Head. Booking a rental in the Spring or Fall is our favorite way to save money on your vacation rental. Rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of acceptable properties. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to reserve an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the high season.
  • Book your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules often open a year in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families book their Summer vacations during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Some hosts and property managers offer promotional rates for veterans. Ask your property manager if special offers are available for your group before you book.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners typically offer renters an option to add vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which commonly costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any days missed as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for details.
  • Find a copy of your local Nags Head visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, travel guide magazines have offers and deals for local accommodations, restaurants and tours.

Narrow your rental Search:

  • Begin by selecting your the best vacation week and a maximum budget.
  • Note the number beds and what type of bedroom configuration your group requires. Pelican Cove: Oceanside, Private Pool, Tiki Bar has 5 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms.
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is commonly available on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, reach out to the host before you reserve the home. Remember that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which typically includes pull-out couches and bunk beds.
  • Are you visiting for a specific event? Use a map search to locate nearby properties.
  • Suitable accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Make certain to ask about wheel chair entry, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
  • Are you bringing the family pet? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Ask your host before booking, and study your agreement! Additional fees or may be applied to your invoice.

More considerations:

  • Add the owner's contact info to your smartphone. Take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
  • To make sure no damages are linked to your visit, inspect for any problem areas during arrival. E-mail the host immediately to report any pre-existing damages. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having a record of issues and contact attempts will be useful.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, elevator or appliance. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief telephone call can prevent many difficulties.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like troublesome vacationers disrupting your peace. Apply the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great restaurants and attractions you would've not otherwise known about!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can typically help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to launch your kayaks, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fishing?
  • Lock your rental while you're out and about. Protect the owner's property and your things!
  • On check-out day, take a final walk-through to make sure you did not forget any personal items. Make sure to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Go through the property a final time and scan for any damage. We suggest inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the property manager is not available, take photos of the property to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did you have a excellent vacation? Most vacation rental websites make it easy for customers to provide comments. If your property and/or property management company was wonderful, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was imperfect and they failed to address it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
