Nags Head rental booking tips:

When to visit Nags Head & When to book:

  • To get the best value, try shifting your vacation dates to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and October offer warmer weather, , and reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the high season. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Nags Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with family and friends at the beach.
  • The sooner your group can book a rental home, the easier your search will be. The best properties are reserved very early. Booking your vacation rental up to 12 months before your vacation dates is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to search for and reserve your rental property.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner whether your group qualifies for a discount.
  • Property management companies frequently offer renters an option to purchase vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for more information.
  • Often, rental management companies supply Nags Head area visitors guides which will include money-saving offers, either offered directly by local businesses, or by way of a partnership between the management company and the business itself. You can also find Nags Head visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.

Use filters to search efficiently:

  • Choose your vacation dates and spending budget.
  • Decide how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your group requires. Sailor's Rest at Nags Head: Spectacular ocean views and just steps to the beauti has 4 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is normally available online. If you don't see them listed, email or call the host before you book the property. Note that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which frequently includes sofa beds in living rooms. You will need to determine what configuration is suitable for your vacation.
  • Looking for particular amenities? Most rental search websites include search filters for amenities. Use these to your advantage to find the perfect rental home.
  • Suitable accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for the less-mobile. Make certain to ask about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
  • Some rentals allow pets, but others don't. Allowable types of family pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and added costs may apply. Ask the property manager about allowable breeds and types before booking.

Considerations for your stay:

  • We recommend storing the owner's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • To make certain damages aren't linked to your family's visit, make note of any problem areas during check in. text the host immediately to report any damages. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having a record of concerns and contact attempts will be helpful.
  • Hosts are there to help! Don't be shy to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disrespectful visitors disrupting your peaceful home. Apply the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great restaurants and attractions you would have not otherwise known about!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Local residents can often point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to see a beautiful sunrise or sunset, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
  • Lock your vacation home while you are away. Keep your property safe!
  • Re-check every room of the rental property to make sure that you've packed all personal items at check-out. Re-check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Record a video to document the condition of the property.
  • Did your group have a terrific time? Most rental management companies make it easy for customers to provide feedback. If your property and/or property manager was terrific, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was inoperable and they failed to correct it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.

Stop by soon and don’t forget to try our estate grown wines in our stores or visit our vineyard and winery, Sanctuary Vineyards, located adjacent to the original Cotton Gin in Jarvisburg.

Most know The Cotton Gin as a must-stop shop for fine gifts, beachwear, souvenirs and so much more, but this retailer has a long-standing history within the Outer Banks. A local landmark that holds almost a century of memories, The Cotton Gin started from humble beginnings and continues to adapt to the times and tourists. Tommy Wright’s family has been in the Outer Banks for nearly 200 years. His great-great grandfather, Jacob Francis Wright, shipwrecked in Duck back in the early 1800s. Calling these barrier islands his new home, Wright and his family acclimated to their new environment.

Adaptation is a common theme for the Wright family. Tommy and his wife Candace, who continue to steer The Cotton Gin, have seen not only their business change with the times, but the Outer Banks as a vacation destination as well. A farm market in Jarvisburg eventually transformed and flourished into several retail locations dotting the Outer Banks.

“As the area changed and tourism took off in the 1960s, the family saw people coming for vacations, so they began to grow vegetables and things developed from there,” says Tommy Wright. The Wright family expanded upon the farm market and began to remodel a working cotton gin, later transforming the gin into The Cotton Gin general store in the late 1960s. While the additions to the farm store drew visitors, it was their encounters with the Wright family that kept people coming back year after year, which is something that remains true today.
