Tips and Tricks for getting the perfect Nags Head vacation home experience:

Get the most from your budget:

  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months in Nags Head. To find the best value, try changing your family's Nags Head vacation dates to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and October offer pleasant temperatures, , and reduced traffic. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Nags Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with family and friends at the beach.
  • Reserve your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules generally open 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families reserve their Summer rental homes during Winter holiday gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Some hosts and property managers offer discounts for active duty military and veterans. It's always a good idea to check with your property manager to see if rate reductions are available for your group before you book.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners usually offer renters an option to buy vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which costs between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for details.
  • Look for your local Nags Head visitors guide magazine upon checking in. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great information, visitor guides contain offers and deals for local attractions, tours, restaurants, and shops.

Choosing the best rental home in the Nags Head area:

  • Choose a group leader, select your vacation dates, and select a max budget.
  • Note the number beds and the configuration your group requires. Reminiscent: Sunken hot tub on the pool deck - close to Nags Head Pier and beach has 5 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is normally available online. If not, email the property management company before you reserve the vacation property. Note that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds in living rooms.
  • Visiting for a single attraction or event? Use a map search to browse nearby properties.
  • Proper accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for the less-mobile. .
  • Traveling with pets? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Ask your property manager before booking, and study your rental agreement! Extra fees or might be applied to your agreement.

Advice for a great stay:

  • Get the host's contact number and check in/check out procedures for your rental property.
  • Record any damages to the rental at check in, and immediately send them to the host. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are beneficial if there is a dispute.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, intercom or appliance. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief phone call can prevent quite a few concerns.
  • Be respectful. Often, adjacent homes are filled by local residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking policies can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Locals can usually help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to go for the best drinks, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
  • Lock your rental while you are out. Keep your property safe!
  • Don't leave anything behind! Before you drive away, take a walk through the rental to make sure you've collected all belongings. Make sure to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • Leave a review! Hosts rely on great ratings to drive future reservations. They'll be thankful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other vacationers will appreciate that you share your experience and help them have the best future vacation. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to solve it.
