Our top Vacation rental tips:

Find your perfect vacation home:

  • Reserve your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules generally become available a year in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families reserve their Summer vacations during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • June, July, and August are high season in the Nags Head area. Reserve your rental in Fall or Spring to get the benefit of gorgeous weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to book an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the high season.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective vacation rental company or host if your vacationing group qualifies for a special promotion or discount.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners typically offer their guests an option to buy vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which usually will cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for additional information.
  • Find a copy of your local visitors guide upon checking in. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, visitors guides contain offers and deals for local attractions, tours, restaurants, and shops.

Planning, picking, and booking yourvacation home:

  • Select a designated group leader, choose your vacation week, and choose a budget.
  • Note the number bedrooms and the configuration you need. 5 Bedroom Beachfront Property With Endless Ocean Views has 5 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms.
  • Precise information about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is commonly available online. Otherwise, reach out to the property owner before you book the vacation home. Remember that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds and bunks. You'll need to determine which bed configuration is optimal for your group.
  • If your family is traveling with pets, you'll need to find a pet-friendly vacation rental. Ask for specifics on breed, weight, and type requirements. Some property owners charge pet deposits and fees.
  • Are you looking for special amenities? Most websites include search filters with amenity lists. Use these filters to your advantage to find the perfect rental home.
  • Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. .

Tips for a wonderful stay:

  • Review check in & check out procedures before traveling. Take a printed copy, and add a note with the instructions to your phone.
  • Hosts are available to help! Feel free to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Lock your vacation home while you're out and about. Protect the owner's property and your stuff!
  • To make sure that no damages are linked to your family's visit, make note of any problem areas during arrival. Get in touch with the rental manager immediately to document your findings. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having a record of problems and contact attempts will be valuable.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like unpleasant visitors bothering your home life. Apply the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great restaurants and attractions you would have never otherwise known about!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Local residents can usually help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to find the best bike paths, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
  • Double-check the property to make sure that you've packed all belongings on check-out day. Re-check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Go through the rental a final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We suggest walking through with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the manager isn't available, remember to take photos of the property to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did your family have a terrific time? Many rental management companies make it easy for vacationers to provide reviews. If your rental property and/or property management company was fantastic, they would love to hear it. If anything was defective and they failed to correct it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
