Our top Nags Head vacation rental booking tips and tricks:

Sticking to your rental budget:

  • Summer months are high season in Nags Head. Reserving a rental home in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons is a great way to save on your vacation. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of acceptable properties. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to reserve an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer months. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Nags Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
  • Reserve your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually become available a year in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many groups book their Summer vacation rentals during Winter holiday get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective vacation rental company or host if your vacationing group qualifies for a special promotion or discount.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners typically offer renters an option to purchase vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which generally will cost you anywhere between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for days missed as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for details.
  • Many property management companies supply Nags Head area visitor guide magazines which will include money-saving offers, either offered independently by local businesses, or by way of a relationship between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.

Make a plan and choose a perfect Nags Head vacation home:

  • Choose a designated group leader, choose your trip dates, and select a max budget.
  • Decide how many beds and the bed configuration your group requires. Phelps Brothers Too:Ocean Views, Private pool, hot tub, elevator & Dog Friendly! has 5 bedrooms and 6 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Nags Head rental home search.
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is usually available on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, call the property owner before you book your home. Note that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds and bunks. You'll need to establish what is right for your vacation family.
  • If there's a particular Nags Head beach you simply love, look for homes that are either near by, or those that cater especially to your needs.
  • Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. .
  • Are you traveling with furry, four-legged family members? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Ask your host before booking, and study your agreement! Extra fees or costs applied to your contract.

More considerations:

  • Review check in & check out procedures before traveling. Take a printed copy, and save the directions to your smartphone.
  • Record any issues with the rental at check in, and immediately e-mail them to the host. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be useful if a dispute arises.
  • Hosts are there to help! Don't be shy to ask questions during your stay.
  • Respect the neighborhood. Often times, adjacent homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking regulations is the right thing to do.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Locals can usually help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to get the best breakfast in town, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
  • Lock your rental while you are out. Protect the owner's property and your stuff!
  • Double-check the property to confirm that you've packed all personal items at departure. Remember to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Please make sure to walk through the rental one final time and look for any damage. We suggest walking through with the host whenever possible. If the host is not available, take pictures of the property to record its condition at check-out.
  • After your trip, leave feedback! Hosts rely on great reviews to drive more bookings. They'll be grateful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other vacationing families will be thankful you shared your review and help them have the best future vacation. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to remedy it.
