Strategies to get the best rental home experience:

Get the most from your vacation rental budget:

  • The sooner you can book a vacation home, the better your selection will be. The most desirable rental homes are reserved early. Booking your rental six to twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to plan and book your vacation home.
  • Summertime is high season in Nags Head. Booking in Fall or Spring is one of our best tips for saving money on your rental home. Rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of suitable homes.
  • Property managers sometimes offer special rates for active duty military and veterans. Check with your host or property manager to see if rate reductions are available for your family.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners usually offer customers an option to buy vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any days missed as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for more information.
  • Many property management companies and vacation rental houses supply Nags Head area travel guides which often include coupons, either offered directly by local companies, or by way of a partnership between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.

Planning, selecting, and booking the rightvacation home:

  • Choose your dates and budget.
  • Note the number bedrooms and the bed configuration you need. Come Relax on the Patio at our Oceanfront End Unit Condo! has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is almost always available on booking pages. If not, contact the property manager before you book your rental. Note that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds in living rooms. You will need to determine what bed configuration is right for your vacation family.
  • Are you traveling with furry, four-legged family members? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Remember to ask your host before booking, and study your agreement! Extra fees or charges could be applied to your contract.
  • If there's a specific Nags Head destination you long to visit, look for homes that are either nearby, or those that cater to your desires.
  • Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. Make certain to ask about wheel chair accessibility, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.

More tips for your visit:

  • Take a copy of the property manager's contact number and check in/check out procedures for your .
  • Property managers are there to help! Don't be shy to ask questions during your stay.
  • Protect the owner (and your stuff!) by locking the property when you are gone, just like you would at home.
  • During arrival, note any damages to the property and immediately alert the property manager. Record all coorespondence.
  • Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking regulations can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You will increase your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors can be a fantastic resource to find the best local beaches.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Locals can usually point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to take kids for a treat, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
  • Double-check the rental property to make sure that you've packed all belongings at departure. Make sure to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Record a video to document the condition of the property.
  • Did you have a great vacation? Most rental home management companies make it easy for travelers to provide reviews. If your rental property and/or property management company was terrific, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was defective and they failed to fix it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
