Tricks and tips to get the very best vacation property experience:

How to get the best value:

  • To get the most suitable vacation home for your budget, we suggest reserving in the Fall or Spring. You'll benefit from lower rates, better selection, warm weather and the absence of giant crowds at your favorite Nags Head restaurants and activities. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Nags Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
  • Book your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules usually open twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many groups reserve their Summer vacation rentals during holiday get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Property management companies sometimes offer rate reductions for veterans. Remember to ask your host or property manager if special offers are available for your family.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners frequently offer their guests an option to obtain vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for more information.
  • Find a copy of your local Nags Head visitors guide magazine upon arrival. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local information, travel guides have deals for nearby shops and restaurants.

Selecting and booking the right Nags Head rental home:

  • First, have your group agree to vacation dates and a budget.
  • Note the number bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your family requires. Oak Island Cottage: Pet Friendly, Semi-Oceanfront, Hot Tub and Community Pool! has 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our vacation rental search.
  • Specific information about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is generally accessible on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, email the host before you book the vacation property. Note that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes pull-out couches. You will need to determine what configuration is suitable for your vacation group.
  • If there's a certain Nags Head attraction you crave, keep an eye out for properties that are either near by, or those that cater to your desires.
  • Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. .
  • If your family is bringing pets, search for a rental that allows animals. Ask for details on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Usually, hosts require additional pet deposits and fees.

Tips for a smooth stay:

  • Put the host's information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • Upon check-in, note any issues with the rental property and immediately alert the owner. Keep records of all correspondence in case a dispute arises.
  • Hosts are great sources of help! Don't be shy to ask questions during your stay.
  • Respect your neighbors. Often, surrounding homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking rules reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Locals can frequently help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to spend a rainy day, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
  • Lock your rental property while you are out! Don't let thieves ruin your holiday.
  • Don't leave anything behind! Just before departing, walk through the property to confirm you've collected all of your things. Remember to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Walk through the property a final time and keep an eye out for damages to contents or the property itself. We advise inspecting the property with the host whenever you can. If the property manager is not available, remember to take photographs of the property to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did your family have a great vacation? Most rental websites make it easy for travelers to provide reviews. If your property and/or host was great, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was amiss and they failed to fix it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
