Our top Rental home booking tips and tricks:

Sticking to a rental budget:

  • To get the best value, consider shifting your trip dates to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and October offer warm weather, , and greatly reduced traffic. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Nags Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with family and friends at the beach.
  • Book your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually open a year in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families book their Summer rentals during holiday gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Some hosts offer rate reductions for veterans and active duty military. Remember to ask your property manager if rate reductions are available for your family before you book.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners often offer renters an option to add trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed vacation time as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for specifics.
  • Many property management companies and vacation rental houses supply Nags Head area travel guides which include money-saving offers, either offered independently by local businesses, or by way of a relationship with the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.

How to choose and book yourvacation home:

  • Choose your vacation dates and budget.
  • Determine how many bedrooms and the bed configuration you need. Family Beach House \/ Hot Tub-New Heated Pool 2024 has 4 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
  • Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed counts is often accessible online. If you don't see them listed, contact the property management company before you reserve the vacation property. Remember that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which frequently includes pull out couches in living rooms. You will need to determine what is optimal for your vacation group.
  • Visiting for a single event or attraction? Use a map search to browse nearby properties.
  • Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. .
  • If your group is vacationing with pets, filter your search for a pet-friendly rental. Get information on breed, size, and type restrictions. Some property owners charge additional pet fees.

More tips for your stay:

  • Get the owner's phone number and arrival/departure procedures for your . We recommend storing the manager's information in your smartphone.
  • Upon check-in, note any damages to the property and immediately contact the host. Record all coorespondence.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, A/V setup or kitchen appliance. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief phone call prevents a lot of concerns.
  • Respect the neighborhood. Frequently, surrounding homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting noise limits and parking regulations is the right thing to do.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Residents can usually help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to order the best nachos, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for BBQ?
  • Lock your vacation home while you are out and about. Protect your property!
  • Double-check every room of the vacation property to make sure that you've packed all of your belongings at departure. Check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Record a video to document the condition of the property.
  • Did your group have a fantastic vacation? Many rental websites make it easy for clients to provide feedback. If your property and/or property management company was fantastic, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was defective and they failed to fix it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.

Stop by soon and don’t forget to try our estate grown wines in our stores or visit our vineyard and winery, Sanctuary Vineyards, located adjacent to the original Cotton Gin in Jarvisburg.

Most know The Cotton Gin as a must-stop shop for fine gifts, beachwear, souvenirs and so much more, but this retailer has a long-standing history within the Outer Banks. A local landmark that holds almost a century of memories, The Cotton Gin started from humble beginnings and continues to adapt to the times and tourists. Tommy Wright’s family has been in the Outer Banks for nearly 200 years. His great-great grandfather, Jacob Francis Wright, shipwrecked in Duck back in the early 1800s. Calling these barrier islands his new home, Wright and his family acclimated to their new environment.

Adaptation is a common theme for the Wright family. Tommy and his wife Candace, who continue to steer The Cotton Gin, have seen not only their business change with the times, but the Outer Banks as a vacation destination as well. A farm market in Jarvisburg eventually transformed and flourished into several retail locations dotting the Outer Banks.

“As the area changed and tourism took off in the 1960s, the family saw people coming for vacations, so they began to grow vegetables and things developed from there,” says Tommy Wright. The Wright family expanded upon the farm market and began to remodel a working cotton gin, later transforming the gin into The Cotton Gin general store in the late 1960s. While the additions to the farm store drew visitors, it was their encounters with the Wright family that kept people coming back year after year, which is something that remains true today.
