Nags Head rental home tips:

Get the best value:

  • In the Nags Head area, The earlier your group can reserve a vacation rental, the better your selection will be. The best properties are booked very early. Reserving your rental up to twelve months before your travel dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to plan and book your vacation rental.
  • To find the best value, shift your trip dates to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and even October offer great weather, fewer crowds, and reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to book a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer.
  • Some hosts offer discounts for veterans and active duty military. Check with your host or property manager to see if discounts are available for your family.
  • Property management companies usually offer their guests an option to obtain vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which generally will cost you between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for more information.
  • Look for your local visitors guide upon checking in. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, visitors guides contain offers and deals for local accommodations, restaurants and tours.

Filter your rental search:

  • To start, have your family commit to date ranges and a maximum budget.
  • Determine how many beds and the configuration your family requires. NEW 5 BEDROOM, PRIVATE **HEATED** POOL, SHORT WALK TO BEACH. COVERED PORCHES has 5 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is usually accessible on booking websites. Otherwise, contact the property manager before you reserve your home. Note that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull-out couches.
  • Traveling with pets? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Ask your host before booking, and study your rental agreement! Additional fees or costs could be applied to your contract.
  • Are you visiting for a specific event or attraction? Use a map search to find nearby rentals.
  • Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. Confirm all required amenities are included before reserving a rental.

Advice for your stay:

  • Store the manager's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • Hosts are there to help! Feel free to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Lock your rental while you're out and about. Keep your property safe!
  • Upon check-in, make note of any damages to the rental property and immediately alert the owner. Record all correspondence in case a dispute arises.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like obnoxious vacationers disrupting your life at home. Employ the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great local food and attractions you would have never otherwise known about!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Local residents can frequently help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to get the best breakfast in town, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
  • Double-check every room of the property to make sure that you've packed all belongings at departure. Check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Record a video to document the condition of the property.
  • Did your group have a terrific stay? Most rental home management companies make it easy for guests to provide reviews. If your rental and/or property manager was great, they would love to hear it. If anything was imperfect and they failed to address it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
