Tips to get the perfect Nags Head vacation home experience:

Getting the most from your rental home budget:

  • The sooner your group can book a rental home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable rental properties are booked early. Reserving your vacation home up to 12 months before your vacation is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to search for and book your rental property.
  • Summertime is the most expensive season in the Nags Head area. To find the best value, try shifting your group's vacation to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and October offer pleasant temperatures, , and greatly reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to reserve an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the high season.
  • Owners sometimes offer discounts for veterans and active duty military. Check with your host or property manager to see if special offers are available for your group before you book.
  • Property management companies usually offer customers an option to purchase vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed days as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for specifics.
  • Many property management companies supply Nags Head area travel guides which often include special offers, either offered independently by local businesses, or by way of a partnership between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Nags Head area magazine and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.

Use filters to search efficiently:

  • First and foremost, have your group agree to vacation dates and a max budget.
  • Determine how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your group requires. Cute and comfortable 3 bedroom cottage, 3 minute walk to the beach! has 3 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is regularly accessible on booking websites. If not, email or call the property manager before you reserve the rental. Note that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds. You'll need to establish what is best for your trip.
  • Some rentals allow pets, and others don't. Allowable types of pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and additional costs may apply. Ask the property management company about your furry family members before booking.
  • Visiting for a specific event or attraction? Use a map search to find nearby properties.
  • Proper accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for persons with disabilities. .

Considerations for your stay:

  • Store the owner's information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • Hosts are available to help! Feel free to ask any questions during your stay.
  • Lock your vacation home while you're away. Protect the owner's property and your things!
  • Make a record of any issues with the rental upon arrival, and immediately send them to the property manager. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that are very helpful if there is a dispute.
  • Respect the neighborhood. Often, surrounding homes are filled by local residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking regulations can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Local residents can often help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to charter a fishing boat, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
  • Just before checking out, complete a final walk-through to confirm you did not forget anything. Make sure to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Inspect the property a final time and look for damages to contents or the property itself. We recommend inspecting the property with the host whenever you can. If the manager is not available, ensure that you take photos of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did you have a wonderful vacation? Many rental websites make it easy for travelers to provide comments. If your rental property and/or property management company was fantastic, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was out of order and they failed to fix it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
