Tricks and tips for getting the best Nags Head rental experience:

When to reserve a Nags Head rental home & When to go:

  • Reserve your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules often open a year in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families book their Summer rental homes during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months in coastal NC. Reserve your Nags Head rental in the Spring or Fall to get the benefit of gorgeous weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to reserve a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during June, July, and August. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Nags Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
  • Some owners offer discounts or promotional rates for veterans. It's always a good idea to check with your host or property manager to see if rate reductions are available for your group.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners typically offer guests an option to purchase trip insurance. Trip insurance, which costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed vacation time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for program terms and fees.
  • Many management companies supply Nags Head area visitor guide magazines which include special deals, either offered directly by local businesses, or through a relationship between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Nags Head area magazine and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.

  • If your family is vacationing with pets, you'll need to book a pet-friendly rental. Ask for details on breed, weight, and type requirements. Be aware that some property managers charge additional pet fees.
  • Are you looking for special amenities? Most websites include search filters with amenity lists. Use these filters to your advantage to find the perfect rental home.
  • Suitable accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Make certain to ask about wheel chair entry, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.

Some things to know before you go:

  • Take a copy of the owner's contact number and check in/check out procedures for your rental home.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, stereo or appliance. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief text message can prevent many problems.
  • Keep your rental home locked while you are away! Don't let burglars ruin your trip.
  • To make certain that no damages are linked to your family's stay, inspect for any problem areas during arrival. text the host right away to document any damages. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having a record of problems and contact attempts will be helpful.
  • Respect the neighborhood. Frequently, adjacent homes are filled by local residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking rules reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Locals can typically point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to order the best nachos, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fine dining?
  • Re-check the rental property to confirm that you've packed all of your family's items at check-out. Make sure to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • Leave feedback! Property managers rely on great ratings to stimulate more reservations. They'll be much obliged for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other families will will be grateful for your experience find their best rental home. Remember to be objective.
