Tricks and tips to get the perfect Nags Head rental home experience:
When to visit & When to book:
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months in Nags Head. To find the best value, try changing your trip dates to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and even October offer pleasant temperatures, less crowded beaches, and greatly reduced traffic.
- Book your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually open 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many groups book their Summer rentals during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner or host whether your vacationing group qualifies for a price reduction.
- Property management companies typically offer guests an option to buy trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which generally will cost you anywhere between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for days missed as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for program terms and fees.
- Often, management companies supply Nags Head area travel guide magazines which will include coupons, either offered directly by local companies, or through a relationship with the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Nags Head visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.

- If your family is vacationing with pets, you must reserve a rental that allows animals. Request information on breed, size, and type requirements. Some property managers require additional pet deposits and fees.
Additional considerations:
- Put the host's contact information in your smartphone.
- To make sure that damages are not attributed to your family's stay, inspect the property for any problem areas upon check in. text the rental manager immediately to relay any issues. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having the recorded problems and contact attempts will be useful.
- Hosts are there to help! Don't be shy to ask any questions during your stay.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like loud vacationers bothering your peaceful neighborhood. Apply the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great restaurants and scenic spots you would have not otherwise known!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Neighbors can frequently point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to find the best seashells, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
- Protect the property owner (and your stuff!) by locking the rental when you are out, just like you would back home.
- When it's time to leave, complete a final walk-through to make sure you haven't leave anything behind. Make sure to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Please make sure to walk through the property a final time and look for any damage. We advise inspecting the property with the host whenever you can. If the manager isn't available, ensure that you take photographs of the rental to record its condition.
- Remember to leave a review! Property managers rely on great reviews to compel more reservations. They'll be grateful for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other vacationing families will will be grateful for your review and help them have the best future vacation. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to remedy it.
