Summary:
Take a step back in to simpler times. Your family and friends will adore this 1950's Fisherman's bungalow charmer - a little hidden gem in OBX! The property has been painstakingly remodeled to bring back the good ol' days while providing guests with all the amenities of home.
We're dog friendly - WOOF! We do have a two dog max. policy (no cats, please!), but no additional pet costs. Located across the street from a beach access, the two bedroom, one bath bungalow sits on a semi-oceanfront lot. The building has been lifted so you can appreciate vistas of the sound, catch beautiful sunsets, and watch kite-boarders in the distance. Other property features include WIFI, flat screen TVs (3), a well-supplied kitchen, and a fire pit.
One of two cottages on site, the property is a part of one of the few bungalow courts still existing in Nags Head.
There is a two-dog max., we do not allow cats, and we do not charge a pet fee. There is no smoking allowed in the unit. This unit is not handicap accessible.
Thank you for considering Tandem Cottage!

Nags Head vacation rental booking tips:
Getting the best value:
- June, July, and August are high season in Nags Head. Booking a rental in Fall or Spring is one of our best tips for saving money on your vacation home. Rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of desirable homes. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to reserve an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the high season. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Nags Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with family and friends at your favorite beach.
- In the Nags Head area, The sooner you can book a vacation rental, the better your selection will be. The most desirable rental homes are booked early. Booking your rental 6-12 months before your travel dates is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to search for and reserve your rental home.
- Some hosts offer rate reductions for active duty military and veterans. Remember to ask your host or property manager if rate reductions are available for your family before you book.
- Property management companies typically offer their guests an option to add vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed days as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for details.
- Often, management companies supply Nags Head area visitors guide magazines which often include money-saving offers, either offered independently by local businesses, or by way of a relationship with the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Nags Head area magazine and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.
Finding the best vacation rental in the Nags Head area:
- To start, have your group choose vacation dates and a budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and the configuration your family requires. Tandem Cottage: Cozy Coastal Cottage, Short Walk to the Sand! has 2 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Nags Head vacation rental search.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is often available online. If not, email the property owner before you reserve the rental. Remember that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds.
- Are you visiting for a specific event? If so, use a map search to locate nearby rentals.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. Make certain to ask about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
- Some properties allow pets, and others don't. Acceptable types of family pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and added fees may apply. Ask the property management company about your furry family members before booking.
Have a great stay:
- Review check in & check out procedures before traveling. Save the instructions to your phone, and take a printed backup.
- During arrival, record any damages to the property and immediately alert the host. Keep records of all coorespondence.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, elevator or washer/dryer. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief text message can prevent quite a few difficulties.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disrespectful visitors disrupting your peaceful home. Use the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great local food and scenic spots you would have not otherwise known about!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Locals can frequently point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to charter a fishing boat, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
- Protect the property owner (and your things!) by locking and securing the home when you are away, just like you would back home.
- Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, walk through the property to confirm you've collected all of your things. Re-check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Did you have a terrific time? Most rental home management companies make it easy for travelers to provide comments. If your rental and/or property management company was wonderful, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was imperfect and they failed to fix it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
