Strategies for getting the perfect vacation property experience:
How to get the best rental home value:
- Summer is the most expensive season in Nags Head. To get the best rental home for your budget, we recommend reserving in the Fall or Spring. You'll enjoy lower rates, greater selection, warm weather and the absence of large crowds at restaurants, beaches, and activities. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to reserve an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during June, July, and August. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Nags Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with family and friends at the beach.
- Reserve your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules often open 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many groups book their Summer vacations during Christmas and Thanksgiving gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Property management companies sometimes offer discounts or promotional rates for veterans. It's always a good idea to check with your property manager to see if discounts are available for your group before you book.
- Management companies and individual rental owners often offer renters an option to buy trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which costs 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed vacation time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for program terms and fees.
- Look for your local Nags Head visitors guide magazine upon checking in. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, visitor guides contain money saving offers on local accommodations and attractions.
Choosing the perfect vacation home:
- Begin by selecting potential vacation weeks and a spending budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and the configuration your family needs. Castle In The Sand: Oceanfront, Private Pool, Spa has 6 bedrooms and 6 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Nags Head rental home search.
- Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed counts & types is usually accessible online. Otherwise, call the host before booking the vacation home. Remember that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which often includes pull-out couches. You'll need to work out what bed configuration is optimal for your group.
- If there's a specific Nags Head beach you are crazy about, search for properties that are either near by, or those that cater to your requirements.
- Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. Make certain to ask about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
- Are you bringing the family pet? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Remember to ask your host before booking, and study your rental agreement! Additional fees or costs applied to your agreement.
During your stay:
- Review arrival and departure procedures before leaving home. Save the directions to your smartphone, and take a printed backup.
- To make certain that damages aren't linked to your family's visit, record any problem areas during check in. message the property manager right away to relay any issues. If there is a dispute, having the recorded concerns and contact attempts will be valuable.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, intercom or coffee maker. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief phone call prevents quite a few concerns.
- Respect the neighborhood. Often times, surrounding homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking regulations reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Neighbors can usually help. Who better to ask where to find the best bike paths, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fishing?
- Ensure you protect the owner (and your things!) by locking and securing the home while you are away, just like you would back home.
- Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, take a walk through the rental property to reconfirm you've collected all personal items. Remember to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Did your family have a fantastic stay? Most rental managers make it easy for clients to provide reviews. If your property and/or property management company was wonderful, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was wrong and they failed to fix it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
