Strategies to get the best rental home experience:

Cost saving strategies:

  • Summer months are the most expensive season in coastal NC. To get the largest vacation home within budget, we highly recommend reserving in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons. You'll enjoy lower rental rates, greater selection, beautiful weather and the absence of large crowds at popular Nags Head attractions and restaurants.
  • Book your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules often open a year in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families book their Summer rentals during Winter holiday gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Some owners offer special rates for veterans. Check with your property manager to see if discounts are available for your group.
  • Property management companies usually offer guests an option to add trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally will cost you between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any days missed as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for program terms and fees.
  • Find a copy of your local Nags Head visitors guide magazine when you check-in. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great information, travel guides have offers and deals for local restaurants, attractions, and tours.

Narrow your Search:

  • Start by choosing your a vacation week and a max budget.
  • Decide how many bedrooms and the configuration your group needs. Carolina Dream: Oceanfront, Pool, Spa, Rec Room has 8 bedrooms and 8 bathrooms.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is almost always available on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, call the property owner before you book your rental. Remember that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which typically includes pull out couches in living rooms. You will need to determine which bed configuration is best for your trip.
  • Are you visiting for a single event? Try a map search to find nearby properties.
  • Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. Confirm all required amenities are available and included before reserving a rental
  • Are you bringing the family pet? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Remember to ask your host before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Extra fees or might be applied to your agreement.

More tips for your visit:

  • Put the owner's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • To make sure that damages aren't attributed to your visit, make a record of any problem areas during check in. E-mail the host right away to record your findings. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having a record of problems and contact attempts will be very helpful.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, elevator or kitchen appliance. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief text message prevents lots of concerns.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like unpleasant vacationers bothering your peaceful home life. Practice the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great restaurants and scenic spots you would have not otherwise known about!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Neighbors can frequently help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to get the best breakfast in town, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
  • Lock your rental while you are out and about. Protect your property!
  • Double-check the rental property to make sure that you've packed everything at check-out. Re-check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Please make sure to walk through the property a final time and scan for any damage. We suggest walking through with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the host is not available, ensure that you take video of the property to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did you have a excellent vacation? Most rental managers make it easy for vacationers to provide reviews. If your property and/or property manager was fantastic, they would love to hear about it. If anything was wrong and they failed to correct it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
