Tips and Tricks to get the very best Nags Head rental experience:

Money saving strategies:

  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months in the Nags Head area. Booking your Nags Head vacation home in Fall or Spring months is a good way to save money on your vacation. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of desirable homes. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to book a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Nags Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
  • In the Nags Head area, The sooner your group can reserve a vacation home, the better your selection will be. The best rental homes are reserved very early. Booking your vacation home 6-12 months before your vacation is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to plan and reserve your rental property.
  • Hosts and Property managers sometimes offer special rates for active duty military and veterans. Ask your property manager if discounts are available for your family before you book.
  • Property managers typically offer renters an option to buy vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which generally will cost 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for program terms and fees.
  • Look for your local visitors guide upon arrival. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, travel guide magazines have offers and deals for local attractions, tours, restaurants, and shops.

Planning, selecting, and booking the perfect Nags Head rental home:

  • Choose your vacation dates and max budget.
  • Private Pool, Hot Tub, Dog Friendly has 8 bedrooms and 9 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rental home search.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is almost always available on booking pages. Otherwise, call the property owner before reserving the home. Remember that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which often includes pull-out couches. You will need to establish what is right for your trip.
  • If there's a certain Nags Head attraction you are enamored with, keep an eye out for properties that are either near by, or those that cater to your requirements.
  • Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. Confirm all required amenities are available before reserving a rental.
  • Traveling with pets? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Ask your property manager before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Extra fees or costs could be applied to your invoice.

Some things to know before you go:

  • We recommend storing the manager's information in your smartphone.
  • To make sure that damages aren't linked to your family's stay, record any problem areas upon check in. E-mail the property manager immediately to record any damages. If there is a dispute, having a record of issues and contact attempts will be very helpful.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, elevator or thermostat. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief phone call prevents a lot of issues.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disagreeable vacationers bothering your peace. Use the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great beaches and places you would've not otherwise known about!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can typically point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to enjoy a steak with a view, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
  • Lock your rental home while you are out and about. Keep your property safe!
  • Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, take a walk through the rental to confirm you've collected all personal belongings. Check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Inspect the property one final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We suggest walking through with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the host isn't available, remember to take video of the property to record its condition.
  • Did you have a terrific vacation? Many rental home management companies make it easy for travelers to provide reviews. If your rental property and/or property management company was terrific, they would love to hear it. If anything was out of order and they failed to fix it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
