Nags Head vacation rental booking tips and tricks:

When to visit Nags Head & When to book:

  • Booking a rental in Spring or Fall is our best tip for saving money on your rental home. Rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of desirable properties. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Nags Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with loved ones at your favorite beach.
  • The earlier you can reserve a vacation rental, the better your selection will be. The best vacation homes are booked early. Booking your vacation property up to twelve months before your travel dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to search for and reserve your rental property.
  • Some hosts offer discounts or promotional rates for active duty military and veterans. Check with your host or property manager to see if special offers are available for your family before you book.
  • Booking websites often offer their guests an option to obtain trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which costs between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed trip time as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for details.
  • Many management companies supply Nags Head area visitors guide magazines which include special offers, either offered independently by local companies, or through a partnership between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Nags Head area magazine and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.

Planning and picking the perfect Nags Head vacation home:

  • First and foremost, have your group agree to trip dates and a spending budget.
  • Note the number beds and what type of bedroom configuration your group needs. Blue Sand Castle- Pets, Pool Table, & Ping Pong has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is generally accessible online. Otherwise, call the host before you reserve the rental. Remember that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds in living rooms. You'll need to establish what configuration is right for your group.
  • Are you looking for special amenities? Most rental websites include search filters for amenities. Use these filters to your advantage to find the perfect rental home.
  • Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. Confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before reserving a rental.
  • Traveling with pets? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Remember to ask your host before booking, and study your agreement! Extra fees or costs may be applied to your agreement.

More considerations for your visit:

  • Be sure you get the owner's phone number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental. Put the host's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • Upon check-in, make note of any issues with the rental property and immediately contact the host. Record all coorespondence.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, A/V setup or washer/dryer. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief phone call prevents quite a few issues.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like troublesome vacationers bothering your quiet neighborhood. Practice the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great local food and places you would have not otherwise known about!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Residents can often help. Who better to ask where to find the fresh catch of the day, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fine dining?
  • Keep your rental home locked while you are gone! Don't let crooks ruin your family vacation.
  • Don't leave anything behind! Just before you drive away, take a walk through the rental property to reconfirm you've collected all of your things. Re-check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • Did your group have a fantastic stay? Most rental home management companies make it easy for guests to provide comments. If your rental and/or property manager was wonderful, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was amiss and they failed to address it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
