Strategies for getting the perfect Nags Head vacation property experience:

Money saving strategies:

  • Summer is high season in Nags Head. Booking a rental in the Spring or Fall is one of our best tips for saving money on your vacation rental. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of desirable properties. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Nags Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
  • The earlier your group can book, the easier your search will be. The most desirable vacation homes are booked very early. Booking your vacation home six to twelve months before your travel dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to plan and reserve your vacation home.
  • Property managers sometimes offer discounts or promotional rates for veterans and active duty military. Make sure to check with your host or property manager to see if rate reductions are available for your family before you book.
  • Booking websites typically offer their guests an option to buy vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed vacation time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for details.
  • Look for your local Nags Head visitors guide magazine when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, visitor guide magazines have discounts for nearby shops and restaurants.

Planning, selecting, and booking yourrental:

  • Choose a group leader, select your vacation week, and select a max budget.
  • Decide how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your family requires. Little Pink Cottage OBX - 50 steps to your Private Beach Access! has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rentals search.
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is normally available on booking pages. Otherwise, contact the property manager before you reserve the vacation home. Note that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which often includes pull out couches in living rooms. You will need to establish what bed configuration is suitable for your vacation group.
  • Looking for unique amenities? Most rental search websites include search filters with amenity lists. Use these filters to your advantage to find the perfect rental home.
  • Proper accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for persons with disabilities. Confirm all required amenities are available before booking.
  • If your group is vacationing with pets, you will need a rental that allows animals. Ask for details on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Often, hosts require additional pet deposits and fees.

More tips for your visit:

  • Review arrival and departure procedures before leaving home. Add a note with the directions to your smartphone, and take a printed backup.
  • At Check-in, record any damages to the rental property and immediately contact the property manager. Record all coorespondence.
  • Property managers are available to help! Don't be shy to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking restrictions can make a stay more pleasurable. You'll enhance your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors can be an excellent resource to find the best local beaches.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Neighbors can frequently help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to rent beach equipment, have a great night out, or the best spots for shopping?
  • Lock your vacation home while you're away. Protect your property!
  • Re-check the property to make sure that you've packed everything at departure. Remember to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Walk through the rental a final time and look for any damage. We advise walking through with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the manager is not available, ensure that you take photographs of the rental to record its condition.
  • Did your group have a great vacation? Most vacation rental websites make it easy for vacationers to provide comments. If your property and/or host was terrific, they would love to hear about it. If anything was inoperable and they failed to address it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
