Tips to get the very best Nags Head vacation rental experience:
When to book & When to go:
- Summer is high season in the Nags Head area. To book the most suitable vacation home within budget, we highly recommend booking in Fall or Spring. You'll enjoy lower rates, better selection, beautiful weather and the absence of large crowds at the beach and popular Nags Head attractions. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Nags Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with family and friends at your favorite beach.
- Book your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules often open a year in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families reserve their Summer rental homes during Christmas and Thanksgiving gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Some property managers offer rate reductions for active duty military and veterans. Remember to ask your property manager if special offers are available for your family before you book.
- Booking websites usually offer customers an option to purchase trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for additional information.
- Find a copy of your local Nags Head visitors guide magazine upon arrival. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, visitor guides have coupons for nearby shops and restaurants.
Filter your search:
- Select your vacation dates and budget.
- Decide how many beds and the configuration your family needs. Beautiful Home with a Hot Tub and Community Pool in season has 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rental home search.
- Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed counts & types is normally available on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, contact the property management company before reserving the property. Remember that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds in living rooms.
- If there's a specific Nags Head beach you are enamored with, keep an eye out for homes that are either close by, or those that cater to your desires.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Confirm all necessary amenities are included before booking
- Some properties allow pets, and some do not. Allowable types of dog or cat, weight and breeds may be restricted, and added charges may apply. Ask the owner about pet restrictions before booking.
Some things to know before you go:
- Take a copy of the property manager's contact number and entry/exit procedures for your rental. Store the manager's information in your smartphone and wallet.
- To make certain that no damages are linked to your stay, make note of any problem areas when you arrive. Get in touch with the host immediately to document your findings. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having the recorded concerns and contact attempts will be helpful.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, elevator or WIFI setup. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief telephone call prevents a lot of issues.
- Be respectful of your neighbors. Often times, adjacent homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting noise limits and parking policies can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Residents can frequently help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to take kids for a treat, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fine dining?
- Keep your rental home locked while you are out! Don't let thieves spoil your vacation.
- Re-check every room of the vacation property to make sure that you've packed all personal items on check-out day. Make sure to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Inspect the property one final time and scan for damage. We recommend walking through with the host whenever possible. If the property manager isn't available, take video and pictures of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- After your trip, leave feedback! Property owners rely on great feedback to compel new bookings. They'll be grateful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other vacationers will appreciate that you share your review and help them have the best future vacation. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to fix it.
