Tips to get the best vacation home experience:

Get the most from your spending budget:

  • Book your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many groups book their Summer rentals during holiday get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Summer time is high season in the Nags Head area. Reserve your rental property in Fall or Spring to get the benefit of gorgeous weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to reserve an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the high season. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Nags Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with loved ones at your favorite beach.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager whether your group qualifies for a price reduction.
  • Booking websites often offer their guests an option to purchase trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which costs 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed vacation time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for program terms and fees.
  • Find a copy of your local Nags Head visitors guide upon arrival. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, visitors guide magazines contain discounts for nearby tours, shops, and attractions.

Make a plan and pick your Nags Head rental:

  • Start by having your group select trip dates and a budget.
  • Decide how many bedrooms and the bed configuration your family needs. A Chance For Total Relaxation, Beautiful Sunsets, Beach, Pool, & Golf Access! has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
  • Precise information about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is often available on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, email the host before reserving your home. Note that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds.
  • Traveling with pets? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Ask your property manager before booking, and study your agreement! Pet fees or applied to your agreement.
  • If there's a certain Nags Head destination you simply love, look for homes that are either close by, or those that cater to your desires.
  • Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. Make certain to inquire about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.

More tips for your visit:

  • Be sure you get the property manager's contact number and entry/exit procedures for your rental home.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, elevator or coffee maker. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief text message prevents lots of issues.
  • Keep your rental home locked while you're gone! Don't let burglars ruin your holiday.
  • Record any damages to the rental upon arrival, and immediately contact the property manager. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that are helpful if a dispute arises.
  • Respecting quiet hours and parking restrictions can make a stay more pleasurable. You'll enhance your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors can be an incredible source for finding the best local beaches.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Locals can usually help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to find the best bike paths, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
  • Re-check every room of the vacation property to make sure that you've packed all of your belongings at departure. Make sure to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • Did your group have a wonderful time? Many vacation rental websites make it easy for travelers to provide comments. If your rental and/or host was great, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was defective and they failed to fix it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
