Nags Head vacation rental home tips and tricks:

When to visit Nags Head & When to book:

  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months in coastal NC. Reserve your Nags Head rental home in the Spring or Fall to get the benefit of gorgeous weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Nags Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with family and friends at the beach.
  • Book your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally open a year in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families reserve their Summer rental homes during Thanksgiving and Christmas gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Property managers sometimes offer special rates for veterans and active duty military. Ask your host or property manager if discounts are available for your family.
  • Property managers typically offer their guests an option to add vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for additional information.
  • Find a copy of your local visitors guide upon arrival. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great information, travel guide magazines have offers and deals for nearby accommodations, tours and attractions.

Use filters to narrow your rental search:

  • Begin by choosing your vacation dates and a spending budget.
  • Determine how many bedrooms and the bed configuration your family needs. A Chance For Total Relaxation, Beautiful Sunsets, Beach, Pool, & Golf Access! has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
  • Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed counts is almost always available on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, call the property manager before you book your rental. Note that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which often includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You'll need to determine what is suitable for your vacation family.
  • If there's a certain Nags Head destination you are crazy about, browse properties that are either close by, or those that cater especially to your requirements.
  • Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. Remember to confirm all required amenities are included before booking
  • Remember to include your furry companions! Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Remember to ask your host before booking, and study your agreement! Extra fees or applied to your invoice.

Additional considerations:

  • Review check in & check out procedures before leaving home. Take a printed copy, and add a note with the directions to your phone.
  • During check-in, note any damages to the property and immediately alert the owner. Keep records of all correspondence just in case a dispute arises.
  • Hosts are great sources of help! Don't be shy to ask any questions during your stay.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like troublesome visitors disrupting your peace. Apply the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great beaches and places you would've never otherwise known!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Residents can often point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to get the best breakfast in town, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
  • Protect the property owner (and your stuff!) by locking the property when you are out, just like you would back home.
  • Double-check every room of the vacation property to confirm that you've packed all personal items at check-out. Remember to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Go through the property a final time and look for damage. We advise walking through with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the manager is not available, take photos of the rental to record its condition.
  • After your trip, leave feedback! Property owners rely on good ratings to propel new bookings. They'll be much obliged for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other vacationers will appreciate that you share your review find their best rental home. Please be fair with your feedback If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to fix it.
