Our top Nags Head vacation rental home tips:
When to book & When to go:
- Reserve your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules usually become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups book their Summer rentals during holiday gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Summer time is high season in the Nags Head area. To find the best value, consider shifting your group's vacation to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and October offer great temperatures, less crowded beaches, and reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to book a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during June, July, and August.
- Owners sometimes offer rate reductions for active duty military and veterans. Check with your host or property manager to see if special discounts are available for your group.
- Management companies and individual rental owners typically offer guests an option to obtain vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for days missed as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for additional information.
- Find a copy of your local visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, visitor guide magazines contain discounts for local accommodations and attractions.
Choosing and booking a perfect Nags Head rental:
- Choose your vacation dates and budget.
- Decide how many beds and the configuration you need. Semi-Ocean Front, Elevator, private pool, hot tub, Pets OK, great views, close walk to beach! has 5 bedrooms and 7 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rental home search.
- Precise details about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is usually available on booking pages. If not, contact the property manager before you reserve the home. Note that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which often includes pull out couches in living rooms.
- Some rentals allow pets, and others do not. Acceptable types of dog or cat, weight and breeds may be restricted, and added charges may apply. Ask the property manager about pet restrictions before booking.
- Are you looking for unique amenities? Most rental search websites include search filters with amenity lists. Amenity filters help you quickly remove less-optimal properties.
- Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. .
Tips to have a great stay:
- Be sure you get the owner's phone number and entry/exit procedures for your rental home. Store the manager's contact information in your smartphone.
- Property managers are great sources of help! Feel free to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Lock your rental home while you're out. Protect your property!
- To make sure damages are not attributed to your stay, inspect for any problem areas upon your arrival. Contact the host right away to document any issues. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having a record of problems and contact attempts will be useful.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disrespectful visitors bothering your peace. Practice the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great local food and places you would've not otherwise known about!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Neighbors can usually help. Who better to ask where to find the best bike paths, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fishing?
- Upon check-out, complete a walk-through to make sure you did not forget anything. Re-check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Did you have a excellent vacation? Many rental managers make it easy for vacationers to provide comments. If your rental property and/or host was great, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was inoperable and they failed to fix it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
