Tips to get the perfect Nags Head rental experience:

Getting the most from your rental budget:

  • Book your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally open twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families book their Summer vacations during holiday gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months in coastal NC. Booking a rental in the Fall or Spring is an excellent way to save on your vacation home. Rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of acceptable homes. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to book a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Nags Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with friends and family at the beach.
  • Property managers sometimes offer promotional rates for veterans and active duty military. Check with your host or property manager to see if special offers are available for your family before you book.
  • Booking websites usually offer renters an option to obtain trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed days as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for more information.
  • Look for your local Nags Head visitors guide magazine when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great information, visitors guide magazines have discounts for nearby accommodations, tours and attractions.

How to pick the best rental in the Nags Head area:

  • Select vacation week and spending budget.
  • Note the number bedrooms and the configuration your group requires. Treasure Island
  • Specific details about bedrooms and bed counts is almost always accessible on booking pages. Otherwise, email or call the host before booking the home. Remember that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull out couches in living rooms. You will need to determine what configuration is best for your family.
  • If your family is bringing pets, you'll need to search for a pet-friendly vacation rental. Ask for information on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Often, property owners require additional pet deposits and fees.
  • If there's a particular Nags Head beach you crave, keep an eye out for homes that are either near by, or those that cater especially to your needs.
  • Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for persons with a disability. Confirm all necessary amenities are available before booking.

Tips for a wonderful stay:

  • Get the property manager's phone number and entry/exit procedures for your rental home.
  • Hosts are there to help! Feel free to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Protect the property owner (and your things!) by locking the property while you are out, just like you would at home.
  • During arrival, document any damages to the property and immediately alert the host. Keep records of all correspondence just in case a dispute arises.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like loud vacationers bothering your peace. Use the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great restaurants and places you would've never otherwise known!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Neighbors can typically help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to book the best tours, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fine dining?
  • Re-check the vacation property to confirm that you've packed all of your belongings at check-out. Make sure to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Walk through the property a final time and look for damages to contents or the property itself. We suggest inspecting the property with the property manager whenever possible. If the manager isn't available, take video and pictures of the property to record its condition.
  • Did your family have a great stay? Many rental management companies make it easy for clients to provide reviews. If your property and/or property management company was wonderful, they would love to hear it. If anything was out of order and they failed to address it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
