Tips to get the best rental home experience:

How to get the best value:

  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months along the coast of NC. Booking your vacation rental in Spring or Fall is one of our best tips for saving money on your vacation. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of suitable homes. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to book a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the high season.
  • Reserve your vacation rental as early as possible. Rental schedules usually open 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many groups book their Summer vacation rentals during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Owners sometimes offer discounts for veterans. Make sure to check with your property manager to see if special discounts are available for your group before you book.
  • Property managers often offer guests an option to add trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which commonly costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed time as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for more information.
  • Often, rental management companies and vacation rental houses supply Nags Head area visitors guide magazines that include money-saving offers, either offered independently by local companies, or through a relationship with the management company and the business itself. You can also find Nags Head visitors guide and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.

Use filters to search efficiently:

  • Select your vacation dates and budget.
  • Determine how many beds and the bed configuration your group needs. Todd House -- Pet Friendly with Pool, Hot Tub, and Gameroom has 5 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rentals search.
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is usually accessible on booking pages. If they are not listed, email the property manager before reserving the property. Note that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds and bunks.
  • Are you looking for particular amenities? Most rental search websites include amenity lists and search filters. Use these to your advantage to find the perfect rental home.
  • Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. Confirm all required amenities are available before booking.
  • If your group is traveling with pets, you'll need to find a rental that allows animals. Make sure to ask for specifics on breed, weight, and type requirements. Be aware that some property managers charge additional pet fees.

Some things to know before you go:

  • We recommend storing the manager's information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • Note any damages to the property at check in, and immediately contact the property manager. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be valuable if a dispute arises.
  • Property managers are great sources of help! Don't be shy to ask any questions during your stay.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disrespectful vacationers bothering your peaceful home. Practice the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great local food and places you would've not otherwise known about!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Neighbors can typically help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to get the best seafood, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
  • Ensure you protect the owner (and your stuff!) by keeping the rental locked up when you are gone, just like you would at home.
  • Don't leave anything behind! Just before departing, take a walk through the rental property to reconfirm you've collected all of your things. Remember to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Walk through the rental one final time and look for any damage. We suggest inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can. If the host is not available, ensure that you take photos and video of the rental to record its condition.
  • Did your group have a great stay? Most vacation rental websites make it easy for customers to provide comments. If your property and/or property management company was terrific, they would love to hear it. If anything was out of order and they failed to address it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
