Tips for getting the best Nags Head vacation home experience:
Getting the best rental home value:
- Book your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally open a year in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families reserve their Summer vacation rentals during Thanksgiving and Christmas get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months in Nags Head. Booking a rental in Spring or Fall is an excellent way to save on your vacation rental. Rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of suitable homes.
- Some property managers offer discounts for veterans. Make sure to check with your host or property manager to see if rate reductions are available for your family before you book.
- Booking websites typically offer their guests an option to purchase vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which normally will cost you anywhere between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed vacation time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for more information.
- Often, property management companies supply Nags Head area visitors guide magazines which will include money-saving offers, either offered directly by local companies, or by way of a partnership between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Nags Head area magazine and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.
Use filters to narrow your rental search:
- First, have your family select trip dates and a spending budget.
- Determine how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your family needs. Tis the SeaSun 4 Bedroom Duplex at Sea Pointe has 4 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Nags Head vacation rental search.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is often accessible on booking websites. Otherwise, contact the host before booking the vacation home. Remember that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull-out couches and bunk beds.
- If your family is bringing pets, you must reserve a rental that allows animals. Request specifics on breed, size, and type restrictions. Often, hosts charge additional pet fees.
- Are you looking for particular amenities? Most rental search websites include amenity lists and search filters.
- Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. Confirm all required amenities are included before booking.
Know before you go:
- Add the owner's contact info to your smartphone. Take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
- Property managers are great sources of help! Feel free to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Ensure you protect the owner (and your things!) by locking and securing the home while you are gone, just like you would back home.
- During check-in, note any damages to the property and immediately contact the owner. Record all correspondence just in case a dispute arises.
- Be respectful of your neighbors. Often, nearby homes are filled by local residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking policies reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Neighbors can usually help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to book the best tours, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fine dining?
- Re-check the vacation property to confirm that you've packed all of your family's items at departure. Re-check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Inspect the property a final time and keep an eye out for damages to contents or the property itself. We suggest inspecting the property with the host whenever possible. If the host isn't available, remember to take photographs of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- After your trip, leave feedback! Property managers rely on excellent ratings to stimulate future bookings. They'll be much obliged for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other vacationers will will be grateful for your experience find their best vacation rental. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to remedy it.
