Tricks and tips to get the best Nags Head vacation home experience:

Finding your best deal:

  • Book your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules often become available a year in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many groups book their Summer rental homes during holiday get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • To get the best value, try shifting your vacation week to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and October offer pleasant weather, fewer crowds, and greatly reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to reserve an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the high season.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager or host whether your vacationing group qualifies for a discount.
  • Property management companies frequently offer their guests an option to add vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for more information.
  • Look for your local Nags Head visitors guide magazine when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great information, travel guide magazines contain deals for local tours, shops, and attractions.

How to choose the best rental:

  • Select your dates and max budget.
  • Determine how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your group needs. The Villas on Roanoke Sound condo with pier, boat launch, pools, & water views has 2 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Nags Head vacation rental search.
  • Precise details about bedrooms and bed counts is often available on booking websites. If they are not listed, reach out to the property management company before reserving the vacation home. Note that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull-out couches.
  • Some properties allow pets, and others don't. Allowable types of pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and additional charges may apply. Ask the owner about allowable pet guidelines before booking.
  • Are you visiting for a single attraction or event? Try a map search to locate nearby rentals.
  • Suitable accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for persons with a disability. Make certain to ask about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.

Considerations for your stay:

  • Take a copy of the property manager's contact number and check in/check out procedures for your rental home. Store the host's contact information in your smartphone.
  • Property managers are great sources of help! Don't be shy to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Lock your rental home while you are away. Keep your property safe!
  • At Check-in, note any issues with the rental property and immediately contact the property manager. Keep records of all coorespondence.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disagreeable vacationers disrupting your quiet neighborhood. Practice the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great beaches and scenic spots you would have not otherwise known about!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Residents can often help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to go for the best drinks, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
  • Just prior to departing, take a final walk-through to confirm you have not forget anything. Check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Inspect the rental one final time and scan for any damage. We recommend inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the manager isn't available, ensure that you take photos and video of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
  • Remember to leave feedback! Hosts rely on excellent feedback to compel new reservations. They'll be much obliged for your review. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other vacationers will be thankful you shared your feedback find their best rental home. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to fix it.
