Strategies to get the very best Nags Head rental home experience:

Getting the best value:

  • The sooner your group can book, the easier your search will be. The best rental properties are reserved very early. Booking your vacation property up to 12 months before your travel dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to search for and reserve your vacation home.
  • Book your Nags Head rental in Spring or Fall to get the benefit of beautiful weather while saving money and avoiding crowds.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner or host whether your family qualifies for a price reduction or discount.
  • Property managers often offer renters an option to purchase trip insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for details.
  • Often, management companies and vacation rental houses supply Nags Head area visitors guide magazines which often include coupons, either offered independently by local businesses, or through a relationship between the management company and the business itself. You can also find Nags Head visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.

How to choose and book a perfectvacation home:

  • First and foremost, have your group commit to trip dates and a maximum budget.
  • Decide how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration you need. Semi-oceanfront in quiet South Nags Head! Charming and comfortable. has 4 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Nags Head vacation rental search.
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is regularly accessible online. Otherwise, contact the property owner before you reserve your home. Note that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which typically includes pull out couches in living rooms.
  • Are you traveling with furry, four-legged family members? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Remember to ask the property manager before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Pet fees or charges could be applied to your contract.
  • Visiting for a specific attraction? Try a map search to browse nearby rentals.
  • Proper accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for persons with a disability. Make certain to inquire about wheel chair entry, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.

Know before you go:

  • Be sure you get the property manager's contact number and check in/check out procedures for your rental. Store the manager's information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, television set or coffee maker. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief call can prevent many difficulties.
  • Ensure you protect the owner (and your things!) by locking and securing the home when you are away, just like you would back home.
  • Document any damages to the property upon arrival, and immediately contact the property manager. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that are beneficial if damages are assessed.
  • Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking restrictions can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. You will enhance your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors can be an excellent source for finding the best local beaches and hangouts.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Locals can typically help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to book the best tours, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for shopping?
  • Re-check every room of the vacation property to make sure that you've packed all personal items at check-out. Remember to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Go through the rental a final time and keep an eye out for damage. We recommend walking through with the host whenever possible. If the manager is not available, take video of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
  • Remember to leave a review! Property managers rely on great reviews to compel more bookings. They'll be thankful for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other vacationing families will appreciate that you share your review find their best rental home. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to fix it.
