Strategies to get the best vacation rental experience:

Find your perfect rental:

  • In the Nags Head area, The earlier your group can book a vacation rental, the easier your search will be. The best rental homes are booked early. Reserving your rental home six - twelve months before your travel dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to plan and book your rental.
  • Summertime is high season in the Nags Head area. Book your Nags Head rental property in the Fall or Spring to get the benefit of warm weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the high season. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Nags Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with family and friends at your favorite beach.
  • Hosts and Property managers sometimes offer discounts for veterans. Make sure to check with your host or property manager to see if special discounts are available for your group.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners typically offer guests an option to obtain trip insurance. Trip insurance, which costs between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for days missed as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for additional information.
  • Often, rental management companies supply Nags Head area visitor guide magazines which include coupons, either offered directly by local companies, or through a relationship between the management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.

Planning, picking, and booking the perfect Nags Head vacation home:

  • Begin by choosing vacation dates and a maximum budget.
  • Note the number beds and what type of bedroom configuration your family requires. Semi-oceanfront in South Nags Head with views! Well-maintained and comfortable! has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Nags Head rental home search.
  • Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed types is almost always accessible on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, email or call the property management company before you book the home. Remember that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You'll need to determine what is best for your group.
  • Some properties allow pets, and others don't. Acceptable types of dog or cat, weight and breeds may be restricted, and added costs may apply. Ask the host about allowable breeds and types before booking.
  • Are you visiting for a single attraction? Use a map search to find nearby rentals.
  • Suitable accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. Confirm all necessary amenities are included before booking.

Some things to know before you go:

  • Add the property manager's information to your smartphone. Take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
  • Hosts are great sources of help! Feel free to ask questions during your stay.
  • Ensure you protect the property owner (and your stuff!) by keeping the rental locked up when you are gone, just like you would back home.
  • At Check-in, make note of any issues with the property and immediately contact the host. Keep records of all coorespondence.
  • Respecting quiet hours and parking restrictions can make a stay more pleasurable. You will enhance your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are a fantastic resource to find the best local beaches and hangouts.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Local residents can frequently help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to get the best seafood, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fishing?
  • Double-check the property to confirm that you've packed all belongings at departure. Check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Inspect the property a final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We suggest walking through with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the property manager is not available, ensure that you take video and pictures of the rental to record its condition.
  • Did you have a great stay? Most rental managers make it easy for travelers to provide comments. If your rental and/or host was wonderful, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was inoperable and they failed to address it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
