How to book the best Nags Head rental home experience:

Sticking to a rental budget:

  • Book your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families book their Summer vacations during Thanksgiving and Christmas gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Reserving a rental home in Spring or Fall is one of our best tips for saving money on your rental home. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of suitable properties. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to book a beach front rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer months.
  • Some property management companies offer discounts for veterans and active duty military. Remember to ask your property manager if special offers are available for your group.
  • Booking websites frequently offer renters an option to obtain trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which costs 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed time as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for more information.
  • Look for your local Nags Head area magazine when you check-in. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great information, visitor guide magazines have deals for nearby tours and attractions.

How to choose and book a perfectvacation home:

  • Start by having your group commit to trip dates and a max budget.
  • Determine how many beds and the configuration your family needs. Newly redecorated luxury home with stunning sunset views on the Roanoke Sound has 4 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is normally available on booking pages. If they are not listed, email or call the property manager before you reserve the rental. Note that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You will need to work out what bed configuration is optimal for your vacation.
  • Some rentals allow pets, but others do not. Allowable types of pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and added costs may apply. Ask your host about allowable breeds and types before booking.
  • Are you visiting for a single attraction or event? Use a map search to browse nearby properties.
  • Suitable accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Confirm all required amenities are available before booking.

During your stay:

  • Review check in & check out procedures before leaving home. Save the instructions to your smartphone, and take a printed copy.
  • Property managers are great sources of help! Don't be shy to ask any questions during your stay.
  • Ensure you protect the owner (and your stuff!) by locking and securing the home when you are away, just like you would back home.
  • To ensure that damages aren't linked to your family's visit, inspect the property for any problem areas upon check in. Make contact with the property manager right away to record any pre-existing damages. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having a record of problems and contact attempts will be very helpful.
  • Respect the neighborhood. Often, adjacent homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting noise limits and parking policies reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Locals can usually help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to launch your kayaks, have a great night out, or the best spots for fine dining?
  • At departure, complete a final walk-through to confirm you have not forget any personal items. Remember to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Go through the property a final time and look for damage. We advise inspecting the property with the property manager whenever possible. If the property manager isn't available, ensure that you take photos and video of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did your group have a excellent time? Most vacation rental websites make it easy for guests to provide reviews. If your property and/or property management company was terrific, they would love to hear it. If anything was out of order and they failed to fix it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
