Tips and Tricks for getting the best Nags Head vacation property experience:

How to get the best rental home value:

  • The sooner your group can reserve a vacation rental, the better your selection will be. The most desirable vacation homes are booked very early. Reserving your vacation rental six to twelve months before your travel dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to plan and book your rental.
  • Reserving a rental home in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons is our favorite way to save money on your vacation home. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of acceptable homes. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Nags Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
  • Some hosts offer discounts for active duty military and veterans. Remember to ask your property manager if special offers are available for your group.
  • Booking websites frequently offer renters an option to obtain trip insurance. Trip insurance, which commonly costs 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for more information.
  • Many management companies supply Nags Head area visitors guides which include money-saving offers, either offered independently by local businesses, or by way of a relationship with the management company and the business itself. You can also find Nags Head area magazine and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.

Choosing the perfect rental:

  • Start by selecting the best vacation week and a max budget.
  • Determine how many bedrooms and the bed configuration your group needs. Salty Cs: Stunning Oceanside Home with Private Pool, Hot Tub and Pool Table! has 6 bedrooms and 7 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Nags Head rental home search.
  • Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed types is almost always accessible on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, email or call the property owner before you reserve the vacation property. Remember that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds and bunks.
  • Some rental properties allow pets, and others don't. Acceptable types of family pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and added costs may apply. Ask your host about your furry family members before booking.
  • Visiting for a single attraction? Try a map search to locate nearby rentals.
  • Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for the less-mobile. Confirm all required amenities are available and included before booking

Have a great stay:

  • Add the owner's contact info to your phone. Take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, elevator or washer/dryer. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief telephone call prevents quite a few issues.
  • Ensure you protect the owner (and your stuff!) by locking and securing the home while you are away, just like you would back home.
  • To ensure that damages aren't linked to your stay, record any problem areas upon your arrival. Call the host immediately to record any damages. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having a record of problems and contact attempts will be very helpful.
  • Respect the neighborhood. Often, adjacent homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking policies reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Local residents can usually help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to find the best bike paths, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for shopping?
  • When it's time to leave, take a final walk-through to confirm you did not forget anything. Check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Inspect the property one final time and look for any damage. We suggest inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the property manager is not available, ensure that you take photos and video of the property to record its condition at check-out.
  • Leave a review! Property managers rely on good ratings to drive more bookings. They'll be much obliged for your review. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other families will be thankful you shared your review and help them have the best future vacation. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to fix it.
