Tricks and tips to get the perfect Nags Head rental experience:

Sticking to a rental home budget:

  • The sooner you can book a vacation rental, the better your selection will be. The most desirable properties are reserved very early. Booking your rental property 6-12 months before your travel dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to search for and book your vacation home.
  • To get the best value, consider shifting your trip dates to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and even October offer warmer temperatures, less crowded beaches, and greatly reduced traffic. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Nags Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with loved ones at your favorite beach.
  • Some hosts and property managers offer discounts or promotional rates for veterans. Ask your host or property manager if discounts are available for your group before you book.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners frequently offer their guests an option to obtain vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for days missed as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for details.
  • Look for your local visitors guide upon arrival. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, visitor guide magazines have offers and deals for nearby accommodations, tours and attractions.

Finding the perfect rental home in the Nags Head area:

  • Start by selecting a vacation week and a max budget.
  • Decide how many bedrooms and the bed configuration your group needs. Fourth Estate Cottage:Historic oceanfront, sandy path to the beach, comfy & cozy has 5 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
  • Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed counts is almost always accessible online. Otherwise, email or call the property owner before you reserve your home. Remember that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds and bunks.
  • Are you traveling with furry, four-legged family members? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your rental agreement! Extra fees or charges may be applied to your contract.
  • Are you visiting for a single attraction or event? Try a map search to locate nearby properties.
  • Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. Remember to confirm all necessary amenities are included before reserving a rental

During your stay:

  • Add the owner's contact information to your phone. Take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, elevator or WIFI setup. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief text message prevents lots of difficulties.
  • Keep your rental home locked while you're out! Don't let burglars spoil your vacation.
  • To make certain damages are not attributed to your visit, inspect the rental for any problem areas upon check in. Get in touch with the property manager immediately to document any issues. If there is a dispute, having the recorded issues and contact attempts will be very helpful.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disrespectful visitors bothering your peace. Apply the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great beaches and attractions you would have never otherwise known!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Local residents can typically help. Who better to ask where to book the best tours, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fine dining?
  • Just prior to departing, complete a walk-through to confirm you didn't forget anything. Remember to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • Did your family have a great time? Many vacation rental websites make it easy for travelers to provide feedback. If your rental and/or host was fantastic, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was inoperable and they failed to correct it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
