The Egret's Nest is waterfront on the Roanoke Sound and adjoins the 500 acre Jockey's Ridge State Park. Fronting on arguably the most charming stretch of sound-shore beach of the entire Outer Banks, the Egret's Nest is a great location for wind-surfers, kayakers, hang-gliders and bird-watchers. The Sound shore near the Egrets Nest is a great place for kids to play (and parents relax). The shallow sound waters don't have the currents and waves of the ocean and we never have "red flag" days!
The location of the Egrets Nest is one of the best wind-surfing launch sites on the entire east coast. It's also a great spot for modest sailboats. Vacationers will savor the peaceful and privacy of the Egrets Nest location. While the site has no adjacent neighbor to the south, the vast open waters of the Roanoke Sound to the west, and nearly a mile of Jockey's Ridge State Park to the north and east: it is shared by the Austin residence as shown on the site plan. The Egrets Nest is attached by a modest ten foot common wall to the Austin's private residence. The pier and driveway are shared. The parking and entrance are separate and private.

Strategies for getting the perfect Nags Head vacation rental experience:

When to book a Nags Head rental & When to go:

  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months in coastal NC. Book your rental in Fall or Spring to get the benefit of gorgeous weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Nags Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
  • The earlier you can reserve a home, the easier your search will be. The best properties are booked very early. Booking your vacation home 6-12 months before your vacation dates is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to search for and book your vacation rental.
  • Hosts and Property managers sometimes offer discounts for veterans. It's always a good idea to check with your host or property manager to see if special offers are available for your family.
  • Property management companies usually offer renters an option to buy trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally will cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for more information.
  • Find a copy of your local Nags Head visitors guide magazine when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, travel guides contain deals for local restaurants, attractions, and tours.

Use filters to search efficiently:

  • Choose a designated group leader, choose your trip dates, and choose a spending budget.
  • Note the number beds and the bed configuration your group needs. Cozy sound front cottage in Nags Head! Incredible views and right next to JRSP! has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
  • Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is regularly available on booking pages. Otherwise, email or call the property owner before you reserve the vacation property. Remember that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds.
  • Does your family require unique amenities? Most websites include search filters with amenity lists. Use these filters to your advantage to find the perfect rental home.
  • Proper accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. .
  • If your group is traveling with pets, filter your search for a rental that allows animals. Get information on breed, size, and type restrictions. Often, property owners require additional pet deposits and fees.

Know before you go:

  • Add the property manager's contact information to your phone. Take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
  • Upon check-in, note any damages to the rental property and immediately alert the property manager. Keep records of all coorespondence.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, A/V setup or appliance. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief phone call prevents quite a few problems.
  • Don't forget to respect your neighbors. Frequently, surrounding homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting noise limits and parking policies is the right thing to do.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Residents can often help. Who better to ask where to order the best nachos, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
  • Keep your rental home locked while you are out! Don't let thieves spoil your family vacation.
  • Double-check the property to make sure that you've packed all of your belongings at check-out. Make sure to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Go through the rental a final time and look for any damage. We suggest inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can. If the host isn't available, take pictures of the rental to record its condition.
  • Did you have a great stay? Many rental management companies make it easy for clients to provide reviews. If your rental and/or property management company was wonderful, they would love to hear about it. If anything was imperfect and they failed to correct it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
