Finding the best Nags Head vacation rental experience:
When to book & When to go:
- The earlier your group can reserve a vacation home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable rental homes are reserved early. Booking your rental home up to 12 months before your travel dates is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to plan and reserve your rental property.
- Summer is high season in Nags Head. To find the best value, try shifting your vacation dates to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and October offer warmer weather, less crowded beaches, and reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to book a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Nags Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with friends and family at the beach.
- Some hosts and property managers offer promotional rates for active duty military and veterans. It's always a good idea to check with your property manager to see if discounts are available for your group before you book.
- Property managers often offer guests an option to buy vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for more information.
- Look for your local Nags Head area magazine when you check-in. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, travel guides contain deals for nearby shops and restaurants.
Use filters to search efficiently:
- Start by having your family select a vacation week and a spending budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your family needs. Dog-Friendly Beach House w\/ Free WiFi, Washer\/Dryer, Deck, & Ocean Views has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Specific information about bedrooms and bed counts & types is generally available on booking pages. Otherwise, reach out to the host before reserving the property. Remember that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds. You will need to work out what configuration is optimal for your trip.
- If your family is vacationing with pets, you will need a pet-friendly vacation rental. Ask for details on breed, size, and type requirements. Note that some property managers charge additional pet fees.
- Visiting for a specific attraction? If so, use a map search to find nearby properties.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Remember to confirm all required amenities are available and included before booking
Advice for a wonderful stay:
- Review check in & check out procedures before leaving home. Add a note with the instructions to your smartphone, and take a printed copy.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, elevator or WIFI setup. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief telephone call can prevent a lot of difficulties.
- Protect the property owner (and your stuff!) by keeping the rental locked up when you are gone, just like you would back home.
- To ensure that damages aren't attributed to your visit, make a record of any problem areas when you arrive. Call the property manager immediately to relay any issues. If there is a dispute, having a record of issues and contact attempts will be useful.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like troublesome vacationers disrupting your peaceful home. Use the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great local food and attractions you would've not otherwise known about!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Locals can often help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to spend a rainy day, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fine dining?
- Just prior to departing, complete a walk-through to make sure you have not leave anything behind. Remember to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Did your family have a terrific time? Many vacation rental websites make it easy for customers to provide reviews. If your rental property and/or property management company was wonderful, they would love to hear about it. If anything was amiss and they failed to fix it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
