Tips and Tricks to get the optimal rental home experience:

Sticking to a rental home budget:

  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months in coastal NC. Reserve your Nags Head rental in Spring or Fall to enjoy warm weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer months. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Nags Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with family and friends at the beach.
  • The earlier you can reserve a vacation rental, the better your selection will be. The most desirable rental homes are booked early. Reserving your rental up to 12 months before your vacation is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to search for and book your rental home.
  • Hosts and Property managers sometimes offer discounts for veterans. Ask your property manager if special discounts are available for your group before you book.
  • Property managers frequently offer guests an option to buy vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which commonly costs 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed trip time as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for specifics.
  • Often, management companies and vacation rental houses supply Nags Head area travel guides which include coupons, either offered directly by local companies, or by way of a relationship with the management company and the business itself. You can also find Nags Head visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.

More tips for your visit:

  • Add the owner's phone number to your phone. Understand and take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
  • To make certain that damages aren't linked to your visit, inspect the property for any problem areas upon check in. Get in touch with the rental manager right away to relay your findings. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having a record of issues and contact attempts will be useful.

  • Be respectful of your neighbors. Often, surrounding homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking policies is the right thing to do.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Neighbors can frequently point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to find the best bike paths, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
  • Protect the rental owner (and your things!) by locking and securing the home when you are away, just like you would back home.
  • Just before checking out, take a walk-through to make sure you did not leave anything behind. Remember to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Please make sure to walk through the property a final time and look for any damage. We recommend inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can. If the property manager isn't available, ensure that you take video and pictures of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
  • Remember to leave a review! Property managers rely on excellent reviews to stimulate new bookings. They'll be thankful for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other vacationing families will appreciate that you share your experience find their best vacation home. Please be fair with your feedback If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to solve it.
