Rental home tips and tricks:
Getting the most from your vacation rental budget:
- Summer is high season in Nags Head. Booking your vacation rental in the Fall or Spring is our favorite way to save money on your vacation rental. Rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of desirable properties. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during June, July, and August. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Nags Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
- The earlier your group can reserve a vacation rental, the easier your search will be. The most desirable rental homes are booked very early. Reserving your vacation property up to 12 months before your travel dates is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to plan and reserve your rental home.
- Property management companies sometimes offer discounts for veterans. Remember to ask your property manager if discounts are available for your family before you book.
- Property managers frequently offer customers an option to buy trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which costs 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for days missed as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for specifics.
- Many rental management companies supply Nags Head area visitor guide magazines which often include money-saving deals, either offered directly by local businesses, or through a partnership between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Nags Head visitors guide and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.
How to choose the best vacation rental in the Nags Head area:
- Start by choosing your vacation dates and a spending budget.
- Private Pool, Hot Tub
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is almost always accessible on booking pages. If not, call the property owner before you reserve your rental. Note that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull out couches in living rooms. You'll need to work out which bed configuration is optimal for your vacation.
- Does your family require particular amenities? Most rental websites include search filters with amenity lists. Amenity filters help you quickly remove less-optimal properties.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for persons with a disability. .
- If your family is traveling with pets, filter your search for a property that allows animals. Ask for details on breed, weight, and type requirements. Some hosts charge pet deposits and fees.
Advice for a wonderful stay:
- Review check in & check out procedures before leaving home. Save the instructions to your phone, and take a printed backup.
- To ensure that damages aren't attributed to your family's visit, note any problem areas upon check in. E-mail the rental manager right away to relay any damages. If there is a dispute, having the recorded issues and contact attempts will be very helpful.
- Hosts are great sources of help! Feel free to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Respect the neighborhood. Often times, surrounding homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking policies is the right thing to do.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Locals can frequently help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to go for the best drinks, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
- Protect the owner (and your things!) by locking the property while you are gone, just like you would back home.
- Re-check the property to confirm that you've packed all of your family's items at departure. Re-check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- After your trip, leave feedback! Property owners rely on great feedback to stimulate future bookings. They'll be much obliged for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other vacationers will appreciate that you share your experience and help them have the best future vacation. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to remedy it.
