Our top Vacation rental tips and tricks:

Sticking to your rental budget:

  • Booking a rental in Spring or Fall is an excellent way to save money on your vacation home. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of suitable homes.
  • Book your vacation rental as early as possible. Rental schedules usually open twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families reserve their Summer vacation rentals during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Some hosts offer special rates for veterans. It's always a good idea to check with your property manager to see if discounts are available for your group before you book.
  • Property managers usually offer guests an option to buy trip insurance. Trip insurance, which usually will cost 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed time as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for more information.
  • Many property management companies and vacation rental houses supply Nags Head area travel guide magazines which include special deals, either offered independently by local companies, or through a partnership between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Nags Head area magazine and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.

Use filters to narrow your rental search:

  • Select your vacation dates and spending budget.
  • Nags Head has 5 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rental home search.
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is normally accessible on booking websites. If they are not listed, call the host before you reserve the property. Note that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds. You'll need to determine what configuration is optimal for your trip.
  • Looking for particular amenities? Most websites include amenity lists and search filters. Filtering by amenity will allow you to quickly find the perfect rental.
  • Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. Confirm all necessary amenities are available before booking.
  • Some properties allow pets, and some don't. Acceptable types of dog or cat, weight and breeds may be restricted, and additional costs may apply. Ask the host about allowable breeds and types before booking.

Advice for a wonderful stay:

  • Store the host's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • During arrival, make note of any issues with the rental property and immediately alert the owner. Record all coorespondence.
  • Property managers are there to help! Feel free to ask any questions during your stay.
  • Be respectful of your neighbors. Frequently, nearby homes are filled by local residents. Respecting noise limits and parking rules can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Locals can usually help. Who better to ask where to find the best seashells, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
  • Keep your rental home locked while you are out! Don't let burglars spoil your family vacation.
  • Just before checking out, take a walk-through to confirm you haven't forget anything. Remember to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Record a video to document the condition of the property.
  • Did your group have a great stay? Many rental home management companies make it easy for customers to provide feedback. If your rental and/or property management company was fantastic, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was defective and they failed to fix it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
