Our top Nags Head vacation rental tips:

When to book a Nags Head rental & When to go:

  • Summer is the most expensive season in Nags Head. Booking in the Fall or Spring is a great way to save money on your vacation. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of desirable properties. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the high season.
  • Reserve your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many groups book their Summer rental homes during Thanksgiving and Christmas get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Owners sometimes offer special rates for active duty military and veterans. It's always a good idea to check with your host or property manager to see if special discounts are available for your family before you book.
  • Booking websites often offer their guests an option to add vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for details.
  • Look for your local Nags Head visitors guide upon checking in. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, visitors guides contain money saving offers on local attractions, tours, restaurants, and shops.

How to choose and book a perfect Nags Head rental:

  • Select vacation week and max budget.
  • Decide how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration you need. Gorgeous sound front home in Nags Head! Sound access and stunning views. has 4 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is regularly accessible on booking pages. Otherwise, contact the property owner before you reserve the property. Note that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds.
  • Are you visiting for a single attraction? Use a map search to browse nearby properties.
  • Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with a disability. Make certain to ask about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
  • Do your family pets travel with you? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Ask your property manager before booking, and study your rental agreement! Additional fees or applied to your agreement.

Have a fantastic stay:

  • Add the host's contact information to your smartphone. Print and take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
  • Note any damages to the property upon arrival, and immediately e-mail them to the owner. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that can be valuable if a dispute arises.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, intercom or WIFI setup. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief telephone call prevents lots of issues.
  • Be a good neighbor. Often times, adjacent homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking regulations reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Residents can typically help. Who better to ask where to rent beach equipment, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
  • Lock your vacation home while you're out and about. Keep your property safe!
  • Re-check the rental property to make sure that you've packed everything at departure. Remember to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Walk through the rental one final time and scan for damage. We suggest walking through with the host whenever you can. If the manager is not available, ensure that you take photos and video of the property to record its condition.
  • Did your group have a wonderful stay? Many rental management companies make it easy for customers to provide feedback. If your rental property and/or property manager was terrific, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was defective and they failed to fix it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
