Rental home tips and tricks:

Sticking to a rental budget:

  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months in Nags Head. Reserving a rental home in Fall or Spring is a great way to save on your vacation. Rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of acceptable homes. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Nags Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
  • In the Nags Head area, The earlier you can book, the easier your search will be. The most desirable vacation homes are booked early. Booking your rental 6-12 months before your travel dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to plan and book your vacation rental.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner or host whether your family qualifies for a special rate.
  • Booking websites frequently offer guests an option to buy vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed days as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for details.
  • Often, management companies supply Nags Head area visitors guide magazines which often include money-saving deals, either offered independently by local companies, or by way of a partnership between the management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.

How to choose the best rental home in Nags Head:

  • Start by choosing your potential vacation weeks and a spending budget.
  • Determine how many bedrooms and the bed configuration your family needs. Come Enjoy the View at Our Top Floor Oceanfront Retreat this Winter! has 2 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
  • Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed counts is usually accessible online. If you don't see them listed, email the property manager before you reserve the home. Remember that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which often includes pull-out couches. You'll need to determine what configuration is right for your group.
  • Are you visiting for a single event? If so, use a map search to locate nearby properties.
  • Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. .
  • If your group is vacationing with pets, search for a property that allows animals. Ask for details on breed, size, and type restrictions. Some hosts charge additional pet fees.

More considerations for your visit:

  • Review arrival and departure procedures before traveling. Take a printed copy, and save the directions to your phone.
  • Document any issues with the property upon arrival, and immediately contact the host. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be beneficial if damages are attributed to your stay.
  • Property managers are there to help! Feel free to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Respect the neighborhood. Often times, adjacent homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting noise limits and parking policies is the right thing to do.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Locals can typically point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to get the best seafood, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
  • Ensure you protect the owner (and your things!) by locking and securing the home when you are out, just like you would back home.
  • Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, walk through the rental property to confirm you've collected everything. Check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • Remember to leave feedback! Property owners rely on excellent reviews to inspire new bookings. They'll be much obliged for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other families will appreciate that you share your review and help them have the best future vacation. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to solve it.
