- To start, have your family choose date ranges and a maximum budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and the configuration your group requires. Sunset Sound: Water Views, Shared Pool, Elevator has 2 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is normally available on booking websites. If they are not listed, email or call the property manager before you reserve your home. Note that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull out couches in living rooms.
- If your group is vacationing with pets, filter your search for a pet-friendly rental. Request information on breed, size, and type restrictions. Often, hosts require additional pet deposits and fees.
- Are you looking for specific amenities? Most rental websites include amenity lists and search filters. Filtering by amenity will allow you to quickly find your ideal rental.
- Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. Confirm all required amenities are included before reserving a rental.
Tips to have a great stay:
- Add the host's phone number to your smartphone. Take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, stereo or coffee maker. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief phone call prevents many concerns.
- Ensure you protect the property owner (and your stuff!) by locking the rental while you are gone, just like you would back home.
- To ensure that damages aren't linked to your family's stay, inspect the property for any problem areas upon check in. Make contact with the rental manager immediately to record your findings. If there is a dispute, having the recorded issues and contact attempts will be useful.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like unpleasant vacationers disrupting your peaceful neighborhood. Apply the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great local food and scenic spots you would have not otherwise known about!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Local residents can typically point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to grab the best tacos, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fishing?
- Don't leave anything behind! Before you drive away, walk through the rental property to make sure you've collected everything. Re-check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Remember to leave a review! Property owners rely on good ratings to compel future bookings. They'll be grateful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other families will will be grateful for your review and help them have the best future vacation. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to solve it.
