Tips to get the best vacation home experience:

Sticking to your spending budget:

  • Reserve your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many groups reserve their Summer rental homes during Winter holiday gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Summer months are the most expensive season in the Nags Head area. To get the largest rental home within your budget, we strongly suggest reserving in Fall or Spring. You'll benefit from lower rental rates, greater selection, warm weather and the absence of large crowds at popular attractions and restaurants. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to reserve a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer.
  • Some hosts and property managers offer promotional rates for veterans. Remember to ask your host or property manager if special discounts are available for your family.
  • Property management companies typically offer renters an option to buy vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which usually will cost you between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed days as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for more information.
  • Find a copy of your local Nags Head visitors guide upon checking in. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great information, visitors guides have discounts for local attractions, tours, restaurants, and shops.

How to pick the best rental in the Nags Head area:

  • To start, have your family select the best dates and a maximum budget.
  • Decide how many beds and the configuration you need. Stunning oceanfront Nags Head vacation home with elevator! has 11 bedrooms and 9 bathrooms.
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is regularly accessible on booking pages. If not, reach out to the host before you reserve the vacation home. Note that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds in living rooms.
  • If your group is vacationing with pets, you'll need to find a property that allows animals. Request specifics on breed, size, and type restrictions. Note that some property managers charge additional pet fees.
  • Visiting for a specific attraction? Try a map search to find nearby rentals.
  • Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. Make certain to inquire about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.

More tips for your visit:

  • We recommend storing the manager's contact information in your smartphone.
  • Hosts are there to help! Don't be shy to ask questions during your stay.
  • Lock your rental property while you're away! Don't let burglars spoil your holiday.
  • Make a record of any issues with the property during check in, and immediately send them to the host. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that are valuable if a dispute is filed.
  • Be respectful of your neighbors. Often times, adjacent homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking policies reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Neighbors can often point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to order the best nachos, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
  • Just before checking out, complete a walk-through to confirm you have not forget any personal items. Re-check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • Leave a review! Hosts rely on good ratings to compel future bookings. They'll be grateful for your review. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other families will be thankful you shared your review find their best vacation home. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to fix it.
