Strategies for getting the perfect vacation rental experience:

Sticking to a rental budget:

  • Book your Nags Head rental in the Fall or Spring to enjoy warm weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to book a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer months.
  • Reserve your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally open 12 months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families reserve their Summer rentals during Thanksgiving and Christmas gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Property management companies sometimes offer discounts or promotional rates for veterans. Make sure to check with your property manager to see if special discounts are available for your group.
  • Property management companies usually offer renters an option to add trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally will cost 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for days missed as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for more information.
  • Look for your local Nags Head visitors guide upon checking in. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great information, travel guide magazines contain coupons for local tours, shops, and attractions.

Selecting and booking yourvacation home:

  • Start by selecting the best vacation week and a budget.
  • Note the number bedrooms and the bed configuration your family requires. Semper Surf: Private Pool, Hot Tub, Rec Room has 7 bedrooms and 8 bathrooms.
  • Specific details about bedrooms and bed types is almost always accessible on booking pages. If not, email or call the property manager before reserving your rental. Note that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which typically includes pull-out couches.
  • If there's an individual Nags Head attraction you are crazy about, search for rentals that are either nearby, or those that cater especially to your needs.
  • Proper accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for guests with disabilities. Remember to confirm all necessary amenities are included before booking
  • If your group is traveling with pets, search for a pet-friendly property. Get details on breed, size, and type restrictions. Usually, property managers require additional pet deposits and fees.

Know before you go:

  • Review arrival and departure procedures before traveling. Take a printed copy, and save the instructions to your phone.
  • Upon check-in, document any issues with the rental property and immediately contact the owner. Record all correspondence in case a dispute arises.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, television set or appliance. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief text message prevents quite a few difficulties.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disagreeable vacationers bothering your peaceful home life. Employ the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great local food and attractions you would've never otherwise known about!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Neighbors can frequently help. Who better to ask where to enjoy a steak with a view, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
  • Protect the owner (and your stuff!) by locking and securing the home when you are gone, just like you would at home.
  • Double-check the property to confirm that you've packed all belongings at check-out. Remember to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Inspect the rental a final time and scan for damages to contents or the property itself. We suggest inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the host isn't available, remember to take pictures of the rental to record its condition.
  • Did your group have a terrific vacation? Most vacation rental websites make it easy for guests to provide reviews. If your rental property and/or host was great, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was inoperable and they failed to fix it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
