Finding the best vacation property experience:

When to book a Nags Head rental home & When to go:

  • To find the best value, shift your group's vacation dates to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and October offer warm temperatures, less crowded beaches, and reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to book an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during June, July, and August. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Nags Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with loved ones at your favorite beach.
  • The earlier your group can book a vacation rental, the easier your search will be. The best vacation homes are booked very early. Booking your vacation rental 6-12 months before your travel dates is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to search for and reserve your rental property.
  • Owners sometimes offer special rates for veterans. Ask your property manager if special discounts are available for your family before you book.
  • Booking websites often offer renters an option to add vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which usually costs between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for additional information.
  • Find a copy of your local Nags Head visitors guide magazine when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, travel guides have offers and deals for nearby accommodations, restaurants and tours.

Use filters to narrow your rental search:

  • Begin by selecting vacation dates and a budget.
  • Decide how many beds and the configuration your group needs. Salt Shaker: Semi-oceanfront with private heated pool, hot tub, rec room and the has 7 bedrooms and 8 bathrooms.
  • Specific details about bedrooms and bed counts is often accessible online. If not, call the property management company before reserving the vacation home. Note that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes sofa beds. You'll need to work out which bed configuration is right for your vacation.
  • If there's a particular Nags Head beach you simply love, look for properties that are either close by, or those that cater to your requirements.
  • Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. Make certain to inquire about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
  • Traveling with pets? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Ask your property manager before booking, and study your agreement! Additional pet fees or could be applied to your contract.

More tips for your stay:

  • Add the host's phone number to your smartphone. Take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
  • Record any damages to the rental upon arrival, and immediately send them to the owner. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are useful if damages are assessed.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, television set or kitchen appliance. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief text message can prevent lots of concerns.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like loud visitors disrupting your peaceful neighborhood. Practice the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great local food and places you would have never otherwise known about!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Residents can usually help. Who better to ask where to get the best seafood, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
  • Lock your rental home while you are out and about. Keep your property safe!
  • Re-check every room of the rental property to confirm that you've packed all of your belongings at check-out. Remember to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Walk through the rental one final time and look for any damage. We suggest walking through with the property manager whenever you can. If the property manager is not available, remember to take photos of the property to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did you have a terrific vacation? Many rental websites make it easy for customers to provide reviews. If your property and/or host was wonderful, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was out of order and they failed to correct it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
