How to get the best Nags Head vacation property experience:

Get the best value:

  • Book your vacation rental as early as possible. Rental schedules often open 12 months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families book their Summer rental homes during Winter holiday get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Summertime is the most expensive season in coastal NC. Booking your Nags Head vacation rental in Fall or Spring is a great way to save money on your vacation home. Rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of acceptable homes. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to book a beach front rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the high season. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Nags Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with friends and family at the beach.
  • Hosts and Property managers sometimes offer special rates for active duty military and veterans. Make sure to check with your property manager to see if special offers are available for your family before you book.
  • Property management companies often offer renters an option to add vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for specifics.
  • Find a copy of your local visitors guide when you check-in. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, travel guides contain offers and deals for local attractions, tours, restaurants, and shops.

Narrow your rental Search:

  • Select a designated group leader, choose your dates, and select a maximum budget.
  • Note the number beds and the configuration your group needs. Life On A Sandbar: Soundfront
  • Specific details about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is almost always available online. Otherwise, email or call the property management company before you book the home. Note that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds in living rooms.
  • If your family is traveling with pets, you'll need to search for a pet-friendly property. Request specifics on breed, size, and type requirements. Usually, property owners charge additional pet fees.
  • Looking for specific amenities? Most rental websites include search filters with amenity lists. Use these to your advantage to find the perfect rental home.
  • Suitable accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. Confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before booking.

More considerations:

  • Be sure you get the property manager's phone number and check in/check out procedures for your rental property.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, stereo or washer/dryer. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief telephone call prevents many issues.
  • Ensure you protect the owner (and your stuff!) by locking the property when you are out, just like you would back home.
  • During arrival, note any damages to the property and immediately contact the host. Record all correspondence in case a dispute arises.
  • Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking policies can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You'll magnify your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are a great resource to find the best local beaches.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Residents can typically help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to order the best nachos, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for shopping?
  • At departure, complete a final walk-through to make sure you didn't forget any personal items. Make sure to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Walk through the rental one final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We recommend inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can. If the host is not available, ensure that you take pictures of the property to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did your family have a wonderful vacation? Many rental websites make it easy for customers to provide feedback. If your rental and/or property management company was great, they would love to hear it. If anything was amiss and they failed to correct it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
