Our top Vacation rental tips:
Find your perfect rental:
- To get the best value, shift your vacation week to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and October offer excellent weather, less crowded beaches, and greatly reduced traffic.
- The sooner your group can book a vacation home, the easier your search will be. The best vacation homes are booked very early. Booking your vacation property up to 12 months before your vacation is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to search for and book your rental home.
- Owners sometimes offer rate reductions for veterans and active duty military. It's always a good idea to check with your property manager to see if special discounts are available for your group before you book.
- Management companies and individual rental owners frequently offer guests an option to add vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any days missed as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for details.
- Many rental management companies supply Nags Head area visitors guides which will include special offers, either offered independently by local businesses, or by way of a partnership between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Nags Head area magazine and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.
How to pick the perfect vacation home in the Nags Head area:
- First and foremost, have your group commit to dates and a maximum budget.
- Decide how many beds and the bed configuration your group needs. Lasea Days
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is commonly available on booking pages. Otherwise, call the property manager before you book the home. Note that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which typically includes pull out couches in living rooms. You will need to determine what bed configuration is optimal for your vacation group.
- Are you looking for particular amenities? Most rental search websites include search filters with amenity lists. Use these to your advantage to find the perfect rental home.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for guests with disabilities. .
- Are you traveling with furry, four-legged family members? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your agreement! Extra fees or could be applied to your contract.
Know before you go:
- Review check in & check out procedures before leaving home. Add a note with the directions to your smartphone, and take a printed backup.
- To make certain no damages are linked to your family's stay, inspect for any problem areas upon your arrival. Get in touch with the rental manager immediately to report any issues. If there is a dispute, having a record of problems and contact attempts will be very helpful.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, intercom or WIFI setup. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief text message prevents a lot of concerns.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disrespectful vacationers bothering your peaceful neighborhood. Use the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great restaurants and places you would've not otherwise known!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Residents can typically point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to charter a fishing boat, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Lock your rental home while you are out. Protect the owner's property and your things!
- Upon check-out, take a walk-through to confirm you did not forget anything. Make sure to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Did your group have a terrific vacation? Many vacation rental websites make it easy for clients to provide comments. If your rental property and/or property management company was great, they would love to hear it. If anything was imperfect and they failed to address it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
