Vacation rental booking tips and tricks:

Cost saving strategies:

  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months in Nags Head. To find the best value, change your vacation dates to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and even October offer pleasant temperatures, fewer crowds, and reduced traffic. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Nags Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with family and friends at the beach.
  • In the Nags Head area, The earlier you can book a rental home, the better your selection will be. The best vacation rentals are booked very early. Booking your vacation rental six - twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to search for and book your rental.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager if your group qualifies for a discount.
  • Booking websites often offer their guests an option to add vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any days missed as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for specifics.
  • Find a copy of your local visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, travel guides have deals for local tours and attractions.

Narrow your rental Search:

  • Start by having your family choose trip dates and a spending budget.
  • Decide how many beds and the bed configuration your family needs. Charming 3-bedroom house Nags Head. Quiet neighborhood with easy beach access! has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
  • Precise details about bedrooms and bed counts is regularly accessible on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, email or call the property management company before booking the vacation property. Note that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds and bunks.
  • Is your group looking for specific amenities? Most websites include search filters with amenity lists. Filtering by amenity will allow you to quickly find the perfect rental home.
  • Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. Confirm all required amenities are available and included before reserving a rental.
  • Some rentals allow pets, and some do not. Allowable types of dog or cat, size and breeds may be restricted, and additional costs may apply. Ask the property management company about allowable breeds and types before booking.

Know before you go:

  • Put the owner's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • To ensure that damages are not linked to your family's stay, make note of any problem areas during check in. Call the property manager right away to record any issues. If there is a dispute, having the recorded problems and contact attempts will be very helpful.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, A/V setup or washer/dryer. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief telephone call can prevent many problems.
  • Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking regulations can make a stay more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You'll enhance your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are a fantastic source for finding the best local scenic spots.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Residents can often help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to go for the best drinks, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
  • Lock your vacation home while you are out. Protect the owner's property and your things!
  • Re-check every room of the rental property to confirm that you've packed all of your family's items at check-out. Check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • Did you have a fantastic vacation? Most rental managers make it easy for travelers to provide comments. If your property and/or property manager was fantastic, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was inoperable and they failed to correct it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
