Strategies to get the optimal vacation rental experience:
Get the best rental home value:
- The earlier you can book a vacation home, the easier your search will be. The best properties are booked very early. Booking your vacation property six to twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to search for and book your vacation rental.
- Summer is high season in Nags Head. To find the best value, shift your vacation week to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and even October offer warmer temperatures, less crowded beaches, and reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to book an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the high season. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Nags Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with family and friends at the beach.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective host if your group qualifies for a price reduction.
- Management companies and individual rental owners often offer customers an option to add vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally will cost you between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed vacation time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for details.
- Many management companies and vacation rental houses supply Nags Head area visitors guides which will include special deals, either offered directly by local businesses, or through a relationship with the management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.
Narrow your rental Search:
- Choose a designated group leader, select your vacation dates, and choose a max budget.
- Note the number beds and what type of bedroom configuration your group needs. NEW Beach Location, Relaxation, and Comfort! has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Nags Head rental home search.
- Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is commonly available on booking websites. If they are not listed, email or call the property manager before you book your rental. Note that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which frequently includes pull-out couches. You will need to work out what configuration is best for your group.
- If your group is vacationing with pets, you must reserve a property that allows animals. Get details on breed, size, and type requirements. Usually, property managers charge pet deposits and fees.
- Visiting for a single event? Try a map search to browse nearby rentals.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Confirm all necessary amenities are included before reserving a rental.
Know before you go:
- Review arrival and departure procedures before leaving home. Take a printed copy, and add a note with the instructions to your smartphone.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, television set or kitchen appliance. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief phone call prevents many difficulties.
- Protect the owner (and your stuff!) by locking the rental while you are gone, just like you would back home.
- To make sure damages aren't linked to your visit, make note of any problem areas upon check in. text the host right away to report any issues. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having a record of issues and contact attempts will be valuable.
- Be respectful of your neighbors. Often, nearby homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking policies can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Local residents can frequently point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to enjoy a steak with a view, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Re-check every room of the vacation property to make sure that you've packed all of your family's items at departure. Check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Go through the rental a final time and scan for any damage. We suggest inspecting the property with the property manager whenever possible. If the host isn't available, remember to take video of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- Leave feedback! Property managers rely on good feedback to inspire more bookings. They'll be thankful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went awry, other vacationers will appreciate that you share your review and help them have the best future vacation. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to fix it.
